Which Bk subwoofer? For my isolation plate and size of room?

AvForum people...as per above, it almost sounds like I have too much boomy base....I am not a big sub woofer connoisseur so I don’t really know what I am looking for but the T5i just doesn’t sound right to me, would a bigger sub sound more tight and less boomy...if that makes sense! ??

Probably setup/placement issue. Which receiver you have and did you run the setup again? If you have Audussey/YPAO post some pictures from the menu including speaker size, crossovers, distances, levels etc.

Thanks for the reply, I have a denon x1600h, I have rerun audussey and the results are below...unfortunately I can only place my sub where it is which is to the left of the the TV on the isolation pad...I can close the doors to the kitchen but they are usually open.

Hi Martin
If you cannot place the sub in another position an Antimode should tame the peaks and reduce the booms.
They sometimes come up on the classifieds for around £100.

Thanks...so you think I would be better keeping my current sub and getting an anti mode rather than looking at changing the sub given the position I have it in?

The settings look ok, but bump up the speaker crossovers for fronts, center and surrounds at least 80hz. They are too low now!

The gain knob is correct behind sub, check that phase switch is set to 0. There is Low Level Input and Low .1/LFE i assume you have connected to latter.

Basically your receiver has Audussey Mult EQ XT which should flatten some peaks (similar what Antimode does), but not as effectively. Bit suprised it sounds boomy. Anyway change those settings i mentioned.

Thanks for the info...set the speakers to 80hz.

def connected to 1/lfe on the sub.m and phase set to 0.

will see how it sounds over the weekend! 👍

With 70% movies and looking noticeable upgrade to put smile on face, T5i and T7i with 8" drivers in tiny boxes isn´t much of upgrade. They just don´t have the weight/depth that the larger BK has and the cost is very high, maybe acceptable if the use would be 70% music. Other members have felt XXLS400 has been great for music even in pure 2.1 systems. One musician just bought it and loves to watch concert blurays with he`s movie/music system. No disrespect to @floatingkiwi opinion/experience, but i can´t remember much of negativity for that model since 2009 regarding hifi use which is actually what BK recommends it for. :) For movies it has limits in the deep bass range, but for typical lounge use with neighbours i can`t see it lacking and we need to remember the low price still. There is always something better when you open up your wallet..

REL has HT range which some has felt is also great with music, but HT/1205 comparable to XXLS400 costs 699£, 599£ open box at Audio-T. And where as BK is made in UK, REL is made in China these days (designed in UK) for those who it may matter. Many members want to support local company. When going past 500£ you have SVS SB1000 which is another great option for both movies and music. One member returned REL T5i for SVS, used in 2.1 music rig.

So, I get the "REL Club" say that they are more musical and that bass is not just about LF response and output etc. Fully understood.

BUT, specs on the T/5i which you can now get for 400 quid but RRP is 550, say 32Hz at -6dB. Is it me or is that a bit terrible?

Quite typical specs for small 8" sealed product. The T-range is more suited for hifi systems, but as we have seen few times similar priced SVS SB models have sounded much fuller when compared side by side. When one needs very small box with nice wife friendly looks, then the T5i could be ideal for music system / apartment movie use. :)

Even still, the ancient REL Quake they quote at 23Hz -6dB, which I've measured with Audyssey in room as being reasonably true. Slightly smaller, sealed 8" with 100w MOSFET.
Of course, the figures aren't massively relevant as there is no standard for the level that it is measured at. But, even so, you would've thought that a modern product would have much better specs.
I realise that the Quake isn't as pretty though. But these things are so small they can hide behind sofas!
