I am planning to upgrade my Hi-Fi system to include DVD player and AV receiver.
One of my prime requirements is to have a comparable stereo sound quality to my current Mission Cyrus 2 amp.

Having demo'd a few AV receivers (incl Marantz) it seems that I need to look at around the £800 mark.

Can anyone add their views of the sound qualities of different machines?

So far I have found that Denon 3802 has better control than 2802 (e.g. bass drums sound 'fuzzy'). I have also found that the Arcam AVR200 seems to have superior definition than the Denon 3802 though it does seem a bit restrained - almost as if it's waiting to be unleashed but doesn't quite get there. However on a jazz track I could here the vibrating of the double bass strings which could not be detected on the Denon 3802.

Any comments on sound characteristics, or other kit I should consider?
