I'll shortly be mounting my Htiachi 42PD3000 above my fireplace and need an AV rack on which to put my external box, DVD player and Sky+ digi box. I'll also want a few spare shelves for future upgrades. I've looked at racks from Soundstyle, they any good ? I've also got laminate flooring therefore should I go for a racks with "spikes" ? I've a budget of around £500. Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers !!

Also worth looking at Apollo racks, and with a laminate floor, whilst spikes give the most stable foundation, they may make a bit of a mess of the floor.

Quadraspire do some nice shelves & cabinets:
    http://www.quadraspire.co.uk/index_main.htm

I got the Q Cabinet myself mainly becuase I wanted to hide away the PS2/controllers/cables etc. but it looks great with everything hidden away. Infra-red still works through the smoked glass door too so no problems there.

I had to search high and low for anywhere that would sell below the RRP though - got mine from Signals in the end.

    llanellijack,

Can highly recommend the Apollo Mezzo Soprano range:-
    http://www.apollohifi.co.uk/pdf/mezzosop.pdf

I could not get a 4 shelf av rack anywhere with height of shelves to suit my requirements (most units three shelf and fixed height). Also has individual height adjustable flat feet.

Managed to get system allowing AMP, TIVO+NTL box on one shelf, DVD, CD on second shelf, centre speaker on third shelf and lcd tv on top shelf.

Also negotiated deal with Practical Hifi, Manchester saving £80 on rrp.

    Regards,

    Chris L.

You can polish some coins and put them on the floor and spikes on to these this looks quite effective :p

We replaced our Soundstyle XS310 AV unit with an Alphason Akros Range AP-CH46/5 (Cherry) after we had our living room laminated floor layed (cherry) and the plasma wall mounted.

    got it from here:
    http://www.appliance-direct.co.uk/more_details.asp?IntID=588

great service and brilliant price, you can get additional shelving for about £20/shelf.

Ours has Av reciever, DVD player, Sky box, and did have 50 dvds on it to, but they've been moved to new shelving and freed space for the soon to arrive Xbox :)
