You have to demo them mate.
You'd be hard pressed to demo them all in the same surroundings though (Sherwood are exclusive to RS)

Drop the Sherwood from the list, IMO very poor quality. The other two are much much better.

i would have posted those exact words...but the RS fanboys in this forum would have been outraged.

Sherwood = Big baggy pants IMO

I owned a 630 & loved everything apart from it being poor with music (but they all are) and it was black, so had to go. Got a Pioneer 811 and it matches the yamaha in the movie department but is possibly even worse with music (so I don't use it for music), hoever it does look good with the rest of my gear.

Either amp will probably be just dandy. The yamaha can be found cheaper - if you can find it. The pioneer is hard to get significant discounts on 'cos it's really popular

Add an extra of 50quid to your budget to go for Pioneer 912.
For £400 you've got auto MCACC, 100Wx6channels, and with the latest surround sound formats

Have you considered the Yammy 440?

Supposed to be slightly better musically than the 630.

I'm going to purchase the Yammy 440 pretty soon, looks like a winner.

Marantz 5300 is supposed to be better than the Yammy for music, I have this amp and to me it sounds great with both movies and music

Just bought an RX-V440RDS after reading the What Hifi? review and have been completely blown away with the sound quality for both music and movies, although I mainly use it for DVD's and Xbox!:zonked:
