    Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations for a new TV.

    My wish list...

I like Samsung and have Samsung all round the house so would like to stick with them
    £500 - £600
    Around the 55" size
    No need for 3D
    No need for smart features
    1080p is fine

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks :)

The highest end 1080p Samsung do at the moment is the 6 series J6300.

For your budget the 48J6300 would be no problem, and you could maybe get the 55" version.

I know you've specified no 3d or smart features but they tend to come on the higher end models.

Alternatively you could save a bit of money by going for a 5 series, but I feel that the improvements of the 6 series warrant the price difference.

It has better motion, a better panel (with better black levels) and is arguably more attractive due to the slight curve.

If gaming is a concern for you then the 5 series actually has lower input lag (although the 6 series isn't terrible)

Thanks very much for the fast response!
Will have a look into them.

P.S Don't get me wrong if it comes with 3D and smart features so be it. I was just saying it doesn't have to.

Same for UHD... if it can come with that at my budget (but still be good) then excellent! :)

    No worries.

For your reference here is the 48" at John Lewis (not necessarily the cheapest obviously) Buy Samsung UE48J6300 Curved LED Full HD 1080p Smart TV, 48" with Freeview HD and Built-In Wi-Fi | John Lewis

Slightly cheaper at Argos Buy Samsung UE48J6300 48 Inch Full HD FreeviewHD Smart Curved TV at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Televisions.

    And various reviews

32" version but gives you an idea of performance with an in-depth review from HDTV Test Samsung UE32J6300 Curved TV Review

48" version reviewed on AVForums Samsung UE48J6300 HD TV Review

    48" version Samsung UE48J6300 review | What Hi-Fi?

Ultiamtely a viewing in person would be a good indicator, the J6300 is on display at all the usual suspects

Thanks again. I would definitely prefer a 55" screen. Got a good amount of space to fill!

I was looking at some of the 55" Samsungs on Amazon and I see some getting good reviews and they are around the £600-700, so yeah, I could go to £700.

Ok well here's another one to consider Buy Samsung UE48JU6410 LED HDR 4K Ultra HD Smart TV, 48" with Freeview HD/freesat HD and Built-In Wi-Fi | John Lewis

I know you've said you prefer 55" but at this stage it's just a few models and an idea of what sort of Samsung you could pick up.

A 6 series is defintely doable.

If you're happy with 1080p then 700 qould defintely get you a 55" (even perhaps bigger if you considered a 5 series)

That looks like it might well be the one (funnily enough I posted a version of that just as you posted :D)

Review here to give you an idea Samsung UE55JU6400 (JU6400) Ultra HD 4K TV Review

My only advice is buy from a retailer with a good return policy just incase you're not satisifed. Because you could read hundreds of reviews, read threads on forums, view in shops but ultiamtely we all have different expectations, likes, dislikes, "faults" we can't tolerate, and one mans gold is another mans junk.

    That's brilliant having a 6 year guarantee!
I'm pretty much settled on getting this one.
The reviews are good. However some are mentioning blue blobs/ pixels on the screen and 1 or 2 people have mentioned lag and bad motion for the PS4 (which is what I'll mainly be using it for) and as it's a 4K screen, some are saying SD looks horrible.
With regards to the motion on the PS4, I think 1 of the people having the issue rectified it with using "movie" picture mode. This is the mode that I use on my Samsungs anyway, so hopefully it's not going to be an issue.

I wonder if it has game mode? that normally fixes some problems when using it for gaming. The price is still high for me, so going to save up for a bit more and hope it's be in the sales when the Euro's start.

Nice one, that's one less thing to worry about.
It was literally just one or two people on the internet that have made this comment, so hopefully they just had a setting wrong!

    Thanks for that.
