    Hi all
I have been looking at 37" plasmas as this is biggest realistically I could fit into room. I have looked at the Panasonic, Sony and Hitachi.

As I am new to plasma ect I am not sure as to what to buy for best.
I want the screen for TV viewing mainly via Sky Digital and DVD. My DVD player Denon DVD 700 has componenet outputs but isnt progressive scan.

I am totally lost as to what would be the better buy out of the 3.

    Any help would be appreciated

No, that is the display panel model. With this you have to buy the input boards that you need to connect the equipment that you have to it. The Viera model is the 37pe30. This model is based on the pw6 range of panels. It comes with multiple connections and a built in free view tunner. It is how ever a few hundred pounds more than a panal only plasma.

    Hello!

Not that many 37" models around.
For me it came down to the Sony or Panasonic Viera.
To my mind the Sony has the edge on design and possibly PQ, but it's marginal. They have both won awards in various magazines.
For me it came down to cost. I got the Panasonic Viera (37") with cabinet stand (rack) and E65 for £1800!
At the time the Sony was £1000 more for the screen and DVD recorder but no stand. As I understand it the Sony has now come down to £2300 at John Lewis.
Either way I think you will be very happy. I traded from a Loewe TV and although the PQ on the new plasma is probably not as good (my opinion) the increase in size more than makes up for it when watching movies and playing Halo 2.
    Hope this helps

I've had the 37" Viera up and running now for three weeks and I'm more than happy with it, PQ is first class now. Total cost inc. stand E55 and 5 year warranty £1999.

Where are you people finding the 37" Viera for £1800 and £1999? The cheapest I have found on line with the cabinet stand is around £2045 and that is without the E55 (I think) and definitely without the extended warranty.

    Cheers.

when i bought mine from comet (dec 13th) it was the cabinet stand that was included - but a word of warning - it is impossible to get most proper gear onto the shelves (not enough space or adjustment) and had to buy a pedestal stand and reference table

Bought mine same time from JL as a price match with Comet. Find more than enough room on the shelves providing you have no more than three items.

try and fit this lot then :D

    centre speaker 130mm deep

    amp 175mm deep

    dvd 50mm deep

have seen the stand work perfectly well with the 'one box' home cinema outfits but as i said earlier you are really struggling with 'proper' gear

I have a 37" Viera too. I've taken one of the shelves out to fit my centre speaker. I then had to use my Atacama Equinox hi fi rack for other gear, amp, dvd player etc.

However, can't complain - great tv and pics, especially through progressive :smashin:

Buy the Viera from Powerhouse. I bought mine including the great looking stand for £1999 which includes 1 years interest free credit. You've got to take even if you don't need it. Why give them the whole money when you can drip feed it and use the mney yourself. Agree about the selves though, my denon amp wont fit without taking a shelf out.

looks like it will a panny so next question sorry guys help is much appreciated.

We watch DVDs and Sky+ only, no vcr or game box and no need for em. My DVD has component out but is not progressive scan DVD700, the Sky box will connect through scart. We never use the tv speakers as I have Denon 2805 amp and 6.1 Marantz speakers so tv sound dosnt matter.
My question is would I be better of with the pe30 37" or maybe a PW7 37" screen. Which is better plasma, Also the PE30 would have stand with it (I havnt got the space to put plasma on wall) would I be able to get a stand for PW7.

    All help is much appreciated.

Given your needs I would say that you are better off getting the PW7 as opposed to the Viera (PE30). There will be alot on the Viera that in your case would be wasted/unused, i.e. DVB tuner / speakers. You can easily get a table-top stand for the PW7.
