Could someone point me towards my next tv.

I am looking at either Phillips 32PW9617 OR Toshiba 32ZP18
as I specifically want a dolby digital 5.1 system.

Sony tv's seem to get a good write up but most seem to come with virtual dolby. Please excuse my ignorance of this subject but could i turn a Sony tv into 5.1 by adding a home cinema kit. If so would this let me have the video and tv in 5.1 as well as dvd's.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'd say go for the 9617, but I'm biased! :D Search the forums for both models and you'll find a vast amount of info.

Good luck with the purchase ;)

Oh and the integrated sound on the Philips is brill

go for a seperate 5.1 system, will be far better than any inbuilt tv sound.
seperates are better but you can get a good all in one system like the pioneer 303 or sony dav550 for £300 or less.
regarding the tv- depends on your budget.
the fq80 is fantastic but costs £1400 online £1800 in the shops,
I've just ordered the sony 32LS60 for £800, so thats £1100 for a good AV system!

Thanks for your advices you guys. Looks like i'm going to go for the Sony KV32FQ80 along with the Sony dav550. Way above what I intended to pay but might as well do it properly.

Just one final question. Will I definitely be able to play the tv and video in 5.1 via the Sony dav550 as well as the dvd player.

Yes you will get 5.1 from the tv and video

all you need to do is connect one stereo phono lead from the back of the FQ80 which has audio Out , to the Audio IN conection on the DAV S550 .

This will output all the sound from the tv (mute the tv internal speakers) into the DAV box , the Sony DAV box will then decode any stereo source into dolby pro logic 1 or indeed pro logic 2 (updated version, much better etc etc) and output this to your surround sound speakers .

You won't regret buying a FQ80 , the picture is just awesome

    No m8,
thats from richer sounds near the railway station and its region 2.
You can rent a special remote to make it region free for approx £40, I forget where, do a search for dav550.
I'm still in two minds whether go for it or the cheaper, supposidly better but non Sony friendly pioneer 303.
