    Hi,

I am about to purchase a 32" widescreen and I am asking the same old question - which is the best at the moment? Is there a poll of some kind of what tv's everyone is buying?

I like the panasonic PD30 but it doesnt get a very good review on here but the magazines say it is wonderful.
It feels like every tv has it problems but you just need to take a chance - you can always wait for the next generation but they will have problems.

What abou the new Philips models are they any better?

Should I pitch a bit lower and go for a good 32" that is on offer compared with buying what is upposed to be the best?

    Thanks

    Tukky

I think it is more about being lucky with a particular TV, Panasonic, Toshiba etc all make good TV's it is the quality which seems to be the problem. Whatever TV you buy, make sure the aftersales service is good. I would also invest in a calibration DVD.

    tukky142,

As you say, all sets have their problems to some extent and the trick is to get a good one.

You'll see many times on this forum, that John Lewis are recommended because of their excellent returns policy.

One member is on their 12th set !!!

I don't think I'd have the nerve to do that, but at least you'll end up with what you want.

    Good luck.

Have a look at the new Philips 32PW9509. It's a lovely looking set with picture to match.
As for the Magazine reviews, would you bite the hand that feeds you?

John Lewis in Solihull no longer sell the Toshiba 32ZP38 so you won't be able to get them to do a price match on that model, if at all you were interested in that one which is by all accounts pretty good and has fewer problems posted than the Panasonic or Philips equivalent sets.

    Thanks glen,

I had considered that model of tosh it does seem a good buy.

I think I will go for a demo of the panasonic, philips and tosh before I buy.

Can you suggest other good retailers in the area.

    regards

You could try Roy Pollard Ltd 0121 705 8662 - They have a good reputation. They can be a bit more expensive than internet prices but they do throw in a 5 year guarantee similar to John Lewis.

Stratford HiFi look decent enough and have shops in both Stratford and Solihull.

Sony and Bang & Olufsen also have their own shops in Solihull centre.

Yep, that's the one. They've also got a shop on the Coventry Road but I haven't been there.
