I think the real question is which subs performance best suits your ears. TBH it doesnt really matter what sub you choose as long as its good enough to intergrate fully into your system with its intergration featurs. The choice would simply be which of your chosen subs performs best and will intergrate best.

I dont know enough about those 2 brands to give you the answer but matching to a particular amp isnt an issue. At that price though ive heard many a good word about the xls subs but never heard one myself. Not seen so much fuss made over the 608.

ok that seems to make sense,so would the xls 200 be a easy first sub to get,I'll be setting it up with the auto setup on the denon 2309 to go with the B&Ws as I know nothing about manual setup,is it a plug and go type of sub?I was thinking the 608 might be a bit more idiot proof(don't know why I'm thinking that?)

They're two subs of very similar size and so will likely have a similar profile of frequency response, thus both will integrate into the room and system just as easily. Brand matching is an audio, if not visual, non issue.

However one has a much larger driver and a lot more power to back it up and will thus offer lower distortion and greater SPL/dynamic headroom under all circumstances.

    It ain't the B&W.

B&W's nearest equivalent is the ASW-610/XP, which is the direct replacement for the older, but rather good ASW675. If it must be a B&W and needs to cost circa £300, then a second hand, or end of line example of the 675 would be worth searching out. Otherwise, just buy the XLS-200.

If however, you have the £400 RRP of the 608 to dispose of, then BK's XLS-300 is a superb sub, with a noticeable dollop of extra low end grunt and even cleaner output at all frequencies.
