A few weeks ago whilst browsing through play247 , I saw that Akira was on sale in a special tin pack - being a big fan and also keen to see how it would compare to my laserdisc version , I decided to buy it but due to a slight problem (lack of cash!), I put off buying it until a week later. After a week , I went online to play and can find no trace of akira on the site - has anyone got any idea whats happened or better still , who's selling it?

I believe the Tin Version was limited and in short supply.

You may want to try www.discemporium.com to see if they still have any.

Otherwise, I believe the standard non-tin edition is widely available from several importers.

    Gargoyle,

Actually, "Play" screwed-up on this one, big time! They didn't order enough copies of the Tin Edition, and also weren't even able to get Tin Edition's out to those who'd pre-ordered it!

Result? People told "Play" to get stuffed, cancelled their orders, and went elsewhere, where companies more reliable could get hold of it, without any problems!

The same thing, happened with the R1 edition of "Terminator 2: Ultimate Edition", as well. This seems to be something that "Play" have a major problem with, in obtaining Limited Edition titles on DVD!

I ordered the normal, single disc Akira from Movietyme 4 weeks ago, still no sign and no confirmation of shipping. But their site says it was released in July. Emailed the Customer Services ( ) a fortnight ago and have had no reply. Possibly the worst company on the web.

    Michael,

The reason you haven't got the single-disc edition of "Akira" is because it hasn't been released yet!

It isn't out until mid-to-late September! Hence, that's why Movietyme haven't sent it to you.

Only the Tin Edition, and the standard Amaray Case 2 x DVD editions came out in July!

www.dvdempire.com lists it (@ USD32) as "on order", "ships in 2-3 days" though I personally doubt that ....

Yeah, I got a reply from Craig (top bloke, answered within 1 day) and he admitted that he wasnt sure if it had been released or a few had just slipped through the net and onto the web (!). He's gonna try and get hold of a copy for me early next week.
