A very simple question looking for equally simple answers; where do you point the sound meter during calibration? It'll be from the listening position but how directional is the meter and which is considered the correct way to take a reading?

If if makes any difference I'm using a Radio Shack digital meter (slow/C) and Avia tones.

The advice is generally that you should point the meter at the ceiling.

I agree with vertical at your listening position. Don't forget that you want to try not to stand between the meter and whichever speaker is being tested at the time. :)

not that im qualified to offer advice here, but when i spoke to Harmon KArdon themselves when i needed to do the same thing with my amp, he suggested sitting in your listenign chair with you leg crossed and resting the meter on your legs facing upwards towards the apex of your centre speaker and your seating position and leaving it there for calibration of all speakers

Happy with the vertical. Now looking at what I need to use it as the front end of Room Wizard. More widgets...
