    Lurcher if you're new you may not know of uk pricerunner always a good place to start when looking for goods.

    There's also the forum advertisers - in the drop down list "Quick Forum Links".

    Once you find a place that seems to have what you want try the search at the top right and type their name in the search text and see if there's any feedback

    Welcome aboard, if you get hooked to these forums, you will stay hooked! Try Sound & Vision, Bolton, http://www.soundandvision.uk.com/about.html
    I have been dealing with them for ten years and I always come away satisfied. They are good on price and service. I bought my 50" Panasonic plasma for £4995 from them! Good hunting!

    Took the plunge 2day and bought Panasonic 42", deliver later this week from Sound & Vision at Farnwoth(Bolton) . They matched the cheapest internet price that I had seen.
    Plus deferred for 12 months. (20% dep)
    My dvd players only have "s" or rgb out. Do I need one with Component out if so any suggestions, will I benefit from improved picture over "s" in.?
    Will be feeding Sky in via the vga imput.

    The s-video input on the Panny 42" (I have 42PW5B) is generally regarded as being poor.

    Component will give a better PQ, esp of you get a player that is PAL/NTSC progressive such as the Arcam DV88+ (or the new 89). What's you budget for a new player?

    Rob,
    Thanks for the reply, I suspect the Arcam is out of my league.
    I was just about to buy a Panny E 50 dvd recorder and Delta kindly pointed out that it didn"t have component out.
    Now that I am aware of that I was considering one of their new players, ie s35/75 which have the connections.
    Other alt was to consider an all in one dvd /speaker package such as the Pan SC-Ht900 which has the connections. ( £400+) or Sony 880 (£650)

    Am I on the right track ?

    Current sound system Missions 733/73s/Solid sub and Sherwood amp( all black) ,which is why the silver Pan system may match the Plasma for looks.

    Thanks

    Lurcher

    Lurcher,

    The Arcam is approx £999. I have a DMR-E30 and whilst great as a DVD recorder I wouldn't want to use it as my main DVD player even if it did have component out.

    I'm not really up on other players since getting the Arcam, but I think the Philips 963 is quite good and can do both NTSC/PAL prog. Otherwise I did consider the (now old) Pioneer 656, but this will not do prog scan. Best ask in DVD forum.

    I have the Panny version 4
    and the S/vid is not in the same League as RGB or Component
    I use the SIMS VGA converter, and have my RGB dvd Looped thru the Sky digibox into the converter
    it all works great,

    if I hook up the DVD via S/Vid there is visble artifacts...via RGB there are no artifacts...just a very very pleasing picture:clap:

    Hornydragon,
    yep I was looking at the panasonic cat 2day, and read the thread you referred to. I am considering it. Slight complication cos tonite I have sold my Speaker set up (missions several years old) . Sherwood amp going shortly.

    Plasma arriving friday - was looking to replace with Panasonic home cinema SC HT900 /SC HT1 which has the appropriate outputs & ps but it seems these are not available for a while.
    Other alt only appears to be a Sony kit 880.
    Anyone anyfeedback on this or others in similar price range. £600/800

    I think going from separets to an all in one would be dissapointing but Pioneer do a high spec all in one (no PS though!) would you not be better served by a life style ish seperates setup? Pannasonic do some slim but powerful gear. X series i think.

    Well a simple way of connecting would be

    Limit --> Component YUV
    DMRE50 (AV1) --> Sky (VCR scart)
    Sky (TV scart) --> JS RGB2VGA --> Plasma

    If the E50 is the same as my E30 then AV1 will do RGB out and composite in and your Sky box should do RGB pass through. So with this set up you can watch either Sky or the E50 with an RGB signal and record terrestrial on the E50 whilst watching Sky and record Sky whilst watching Sky (!) or a DVD.

    Personally I have a JS RGB2Svideo box to record from Sky on my E30, but record from my Freeview box via composite at the moment and the PQ is suprisingly good. The E30 does seem to do a good job of "cleaning" the signal.
