I live in High Wycombe and can't seem to find anywhere to hear these speakers.

The web site give us the Marantz UK HQ address (not very helpful!) as my 'local' dealer.

If anyone has heard them - please tell me what you thought!

    Thanks

I asked the same question in another forum a few weeks back (http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147204&page=3&pp=15&highlight=genie) and the answer I got back was that they were looking into re-structuring their suppliers.

However I did ring the Marantz HQ number and spoke to a nice lady who told me who all their suppliers were in my area.

I was also lucky enough to make it to the HiFi show in Manchester this weekend and get a listen to the Genies. Although they were hooked up to a pretty average amp due to them being on the Marantz stand they sounded really good, very clear, and they looked better in the flesh too!

Now if my local hifi shop can clear their demo room of the stuff that is left from the show I can audition them with the Yamaha AX750SE and I can make doubly sure before I splash out!

    Hope this helps

    Rob

Should never trust the reviews, and thats what i've ignorantly done.

    hey Raj,

    Good on you!

How much did you get them for and which amp are you going to use to power them and please post a review when you get them and set them up.

    Thanks.

I am confident you won't be disapointed- but you do have right of return.

Currently I freely admit our dealer locater is a bit rubbish but this is partly because dealers who previously didn't touch our stuff with a barge pole are ordering Genie, this means that no list we have is remotely accurate.

Thanks tons of fun and bbasra

I paid £800 for the speaker set (couldn't find them any cheaper) and am pairing them with a Denon 2805 Amp (£550). Will this be an ok set up?

I'll gladly write my thoughts when it all arrives.

I think that it should work nicely together- the 05 series Denon's are excellent units and have good current supply to power the Genie's. Marantz's new receivers should be equally good but the Denon is a good choice for film and music.

I think that will be a great setup!

I am going to get these speakers once i have heard them to go with a Denon 3805 as i am getting this amp at a good price. Just need to get the speakers.

@ Raj, can you also let us know if the speakers come with any cabling, if so, if it is any good?

    Thanks

No cabling is supplied other than the sub's mains lead. This is pretty normal practice in our defence.

Tons of fun - which cabling would u recommend.

I'm a bit stuck as the rear speaker wires have been chased into the walls - they're the stuff you get with Sony cinema systems (probably poor). I have no choice with these.

Will it affect the quality significantly?

    (hope not...)

Cabling makes a difference but not an epic one. MS recommend Audioquest Type 2 in this instance (and it worked well at Manchester) but if you can't find it QED original is equally proficient.

Did anyone try the Genie's with AVR-3805 Denon - I'm dead set on this amp but puzzled over speakers to buy...

It is a problem getting a decent 'local' (ish) shop to demo Amps / Speakers (I live in Cheshire)...

If I go for this speaker package though, it may blow all of my plans out of the water...

Wanted a charcoal P 6 or 7 Series Plasma to go, not keen on Silver Sep system but feel that 3805 looks better in Silver, can anyone advise?

May push me down the P7 in silver route although black plasma's lok better in my opinion - Doh!

    Confusing Myself now...

just took them out of box look very nice

when you come to put them on the wall be very carefull not to unscrew the allen key bolt too far this allows you to move the speakers around to get the bracket in right position but if you do you may lose the plastic nut on the inside of the speaker like i did this ment i had to take my brand new speakers apart to repair them before i had even tried them so be carefull

Mating them to a 3805 Denon, really looking forward to it. Is the Sub any good mate, and do the units feel like quality items?

Thanks mate, good to hear. You didn't happen to buy from RicherSounds did you? Just wondering whether 7 - 10 day delivery schedule is accurate, running outta time to complete custom install pre-Xmas...

Also, what cable did you use mate, what sort of quality? Only thing I haven't ordered...

    Thanks :smashin:

If adequate demoing areas continue to be a problem, once my Genie is in place, I will be happy to demo for people in the MK/Bucks area.

If anyone in London wants to hear the Genies the Hifi shop next to the Odeon on Tottenham Court Road has got them, can't remember its name unfortunately. They're wired up next to Kef 2005.2s and the source mystically goes through many different AV amps so you can compare them too. They're wired up on the shop floor rather than in a separate room so not at their best, but good for simple comparison.

They sound lovely, I personally preferred their sound to the eggs...but I have to say I preferred the sound made by full size speakers for music.

I got mine from Hi-Way Hi-Fi for £550 and picked them up last week. I opted for the black ones otherwise I would have had to wait for the silver ones. Their number is 020 723 5251, address 318-324 Edgware Rd, London, W2 1DY.

Haven't set them up as I am currently waiting for my amp to arrive, but I took them out of the box and they look very nice.

How did you manage that as the price on the website is £799.

Can you please tell me who you had spoken too?

    Hi bbasra

I ordered my genies on around the 11th Oct. At that time they were advertised on their website for £550.00

They didn't have any stock so I had to keep phoning them to ask if they had any stock. Once they did I said I would come down and pick them up, which was about 2 weeks ago now.

I did post about the price when i first saw them advertised for that price a few weeks ago on this forum, as i believed it was a good price.

Anyway speak to "Ken" he normally gives good offers.

Was it very easy to do?
