Can anyone tell me where I can audition a DV88+ in the Greater Manchester area (ideally hooked up to a plasma with component video) ?

    Thanks in advance

Probably easiest to phone up the registered Arcam dealers and ask them if they will do you a demo (any good dealer should be prepared to do a demo for kit in this price range). The registered dealers for Manchester are reproduced below (from the Arcam website)

    Town Name Address Phone Number
    MANCHESTER Hi Fi Stereo 51 Washway Road, Sale M33 7AB 0161 973 5577

    MANCHESTER Practical Hi Fi 65 Bridge Street M3 3BQ 0161 839 8839

    MANCHESTER Richer Sounds 415-419 Bury New Road, Prestwich M25 1AA 0161 773 0333

    MANCHESTER Sevenoaks Sound & Vision 69 High Street M4 1FS 0161 831 7969

    MANCHESTER Superfi 54 Bridge Street, Salford M3 3BW 0161 835 1156

just come back from sevenoaks in manchester, with a shiny new DV88+ under my arm - saw it, loved, bought it !! i was determined not buy on first viewing, but the audition and attractive price swayed me.

the picture was pretty impressive, the mount of detail it revealed on LOTR was better than anything else i have seen.

as for prog scan, I am undecided. it took a number of viewings and close scrutiny to see the difference. there was a difference, difficult to quantify, but noticable. however i would have bought this any without the prog scan, the picture was so good.

when it's connected up and i have played with it properly, i will post back here with any more thoughts.

anyway, got to go, xmas has come early.

    a hard-haggled £900.

also spent last night cursing coz it would only play region2. spoke to the shop this morning and they had forgottent to tell me about the hidden menu which turns on auto-region detect!

i have noticed occasional sound dropout, not reproducible. seem to remember reading something in thread about this problem. more investigation needed i think.
