Looking for some assistance guys !

I have UP TO £2500 available to purchase a Plasma or LCD and other necessary equipment and I need ideas. I have been looking at a few options, but wanted advice from those in the know.

Some criteria for my purchase are as follows :-

DVD / HDD Recorder / Player Required
Surround System 5.1 compatible (although not part of this purchase)
Flat Panel (i.e. Plasma or LCD) has to be HD Ready - Future Proof !!!
37" Screen size (room too small for 42"- I think)
Ideally want to link required units with component cables etc.

Also, I have some questions :-

What would be the best screen size for a room 3.1 metres wide ?
Are TV's better mounted on wall, pedestal or own stand (i.e. pv500)?
If mounted on a wall, what is the best height ?
Do you need to get surround sound system or is the sound from units with speakers ok ?
What are the best type of cables to purchase (component, optical etc.)?
Can you purchase 'devices' which allows equipment (e.g. DVD) to be hidden in cupboard and linked to a remote infra red sensor outside cupboard ?

Excuse my terminology here, not an expert in this.

Sorry for so many questions, but any help would be appreciated.

    Just a quick answer.
I doubt 42" will be too big, unless you live in a VERY small room :smashin:
£2500 gives you a choice of basically 3 top 42's.
    Panasonic pv 500, Hitachi 7200 and Pioneer 435 (?).
But to be honest, there are tons of threads asking the same question
    Panny 37v500 seems a popular 37".
Have a search in the forum mate  and I'm sure if you can't find an answer people will help you more.

As regards having DVD etc hidden in cupboards, a lot of equipment now have control links for infra red. Pioneer have a 3.5mm jack link between all their gear to allow infra red signals to be shared.
