Second question. Does anyone know where I can find more information on the actual hardware that Sky supplies for both standard and Sky+? I appreciate it is difficult to persuade Sky to install a particular make, but I would like to know what the specs are and if possible reviews on the boxes themselves especially the reconditioned ones if I go for the Sky+ package.

    Regards, jrisch

All the Sky boxes are made to the same specs. The reliability of some makes is better than others, but you probably won't find this documented anywhere else than on forums, because of fear of legal action if it were to be presented in any other format. On these forums, you will find "personal opinions" rather than published facts ;)

OK, thanks again. I keep seeing comments about Pace vs Amstrad, and V1 vs V2 and I was just trying to understand the difference.

I wouldn't worry too much about V1 . Discontinued long ago , and your only going to get one if you buy second hand .

You'll find all you need to know by reading old threads in these forums. Amstrad Sky+ is alleged to be less reliable, and is not so easy to "upgrade" the hard drive on. Sky+ V1 and V2 have exactly the same specs, but the V2 box is a little smaller. Sky+ 160 is alleged to have software problems which cause sound breakup on the optical output.

That's more or less it, in a nutshell :)
