Where in the cinemas do you try to sit and does it really matter these days?

Just a curious question,
Does it actually matter these days, to try to be dead central?

I try to pick a seat that's central so that the sound is equally balanced

Central, Central - I call them 'Sheldon Seats' fron the Big Bang Theory episode.

If those aren't available then I don't go.

Not usually a problem as I tend to go at less popular times.

I have Cineworld membership and use it at least once per week.

Cheers,

Nigel

do you take a toy xylophone with you to find the acoustic sweet spot? [emoji6]

Always try to sit in centre, nearer the back to get the best sound and perception for the screen. The clincher though is to always make sure I'm sat a few rows behind the fool that has to check into Facebook with their phone on full brightness for that total immersion experience.

Sound doesn't bother me so much, more important to me is a comfortable viewing position - I prefer to sit comfortable and be able to look straight ahead.

Cheers,

Nigel

I too have been called Sheldon over my cinema seating preferences. If I can't book the seats I want then I would rather give it a miss.

I had my first experience of watching a movie on my oculus rift last week, it's pretty cool to be able to sit in the perfect seat with your headphones on in an empty cinema without any dickheads playing with phones and talking. The resolution of the headset isn't quite there yet to make it a viable replacement for the cinema, but it is only going to get better as the technology improves.

Centrally about halfway back. Which is often just in front of the VIP seats, or on them if it's a special occasion.

Mostly though, these days it's on the sofa in the home cinema's sweet spot.

Centre, about a third in from the screen. I like the immersive POV.

Similar, not only for immersive POV but because I've run projectors as my main display for 23 years now I'm used to a larger field of view compared to most people.

Every cinema varies though, and that makes for some odd locations - like row B in Castlefords IMAX (compared to row G in Sheffields IMAX).

I like the large screen at the cinema but I prefer the sound I get at home on my own system.

Sadly at my local Vue it doesnt matter as most of the t***ts that seem to frequent most of the showings either chat constantly, rummage in their popcorn boxes for two hours or crunch on their nachos throughout the film, used to go regularly (weely sometimes) now barely once every couple of months and each time same issues as described!

Just in front of the VIP seats at my local Vue as close to centre as possible.

Anyone had any good/bad experiences with the DBOX seats and 3D?
Me personally, I like it when you get both 3D and DBOX viewings at once, adds more scope to the movie

Near to centre of row around 3/4 of way back if in IMAX auditorium, or in a row around halfway back if it's a regular screen and/or has Dolby Atmos sound system.

Usually nearer the back and right by the aisle. Any seat that's away from other people.

Just to review the original question, why wouldn't it matter where you sit, from a sound point of view? We once sat at the back right under one of the the right rear effects speaker, it wasn't a nice experience.

size of surface area? as calibration and optimal settings are done on average measurements. Unlike in live concerts where you're standing next to one of LR speakers :). IDK I never went for viewings in first week and always had choice. Central and as far back as possible w/o paying for premium seats.
