Where have all the Sony Dvd Recorders gone?

Hi all

Does anyone have any idea of why it is almost impossible to buy almost any of the Sony DVD recorder range of kit (RDR-HXD etc) ?
Even the website of Sony themselves seems to be full of "temporarily unavailable" messags everywhere.

Most of the (reputable) shops seem to be "unavailable", "out of stock" etc, etc.

Is there a global DVD recorder shortage or something perhaps, was last year a bad year for DVD recorder manufacturing or something (too much rain, not enough rain, global warming effects etc)?

Seriously though, it's both pointless and frustrating for outlets to keep splashing adverts for these things all over the web and then time after time, when you actually respond to them, the website tells you they don't have any anyway

grhhh !!

All I want to do is give them my money. You'd think that would be easy right ?

Has anyone out there had any more success than me recently at actually finding one of these things?

Thanks for any help or feedback of your own experiences with this.

Welcome to the forum.

The RDR-HXD range of recorders are long 'obsolete' and have not been on sale for some time.

After the demise of that range, Sony badged DVD recorders made by Samsung [ RDR-HDC range].

These are still available .. but they are not well liked and have a poor reputation here.

Oh okay. Thanks very much for that helpful info Gavtech - much appreciated. At least it now makes sense why I can't buy them.

Don't know why Sony UK are still listing them on their website at all though. But thanks for the info and thanks also for the tip about the poor reputation fo the newer versions.

Guess I'll have to do my reasearch all over a gain for a another brand.

Cheers. All the best.

I would think that sony still list the recorders , firmware and documentation for existing owners like myself

even though pioneer stopped making them some time ago , you would expect sony to fulfil after sales service for a few years at least

you can buy second hand ones which may be perfectly serviceable , I know I have done so , as well as buying new a couple of years ago

Yes I can see that would make good sense - in their support section, definately. I think what threw me a bit though was that at least one of them still has a price listed for it in the Sony shop; a bit misleading really, listing a price for something they no longer sell, and also saying that it's "temporarily" unavailable - there's nothing very temporary about not making them any more

Shame on Sony, but thanks again to you guys for your replies and help - appreciated.

Cheers
