    My PC is dying and I really need a new one...

    I'm not looking at a gaming machine but do want one that can upscale S-Video or RGB to HD resolutions. It could also do with a sizeable hard disk and a DVD writer as well as on-board 5.1/7.1. Need DVI and VGA out (can you get component out video cards?)

    I built my last machine and it has lasted for 5 years however I am now in a job where I cannot face the hassle of building a machine and making sure its stable!

    Any ideas - I really don't want a machine thats overkill and at this stage I am not too bothered about expensive cases as am I yet to buy my first LCD tv.

    thanks in advance.

    Best building a machine yourself, then you can get what you need, you can build a pretty good machine for around £700, not including monitor/keyboard/mouse/OS

    £80-MATX Case
    £85-MATX Motherboard (Asus P5LD2-VM)
    £190-CPU-Pentium Dual Core 2.8GHZ
    £130-Memory-1GB Crucial DDR 2 667
    £100-Hard Drive-250GB
    £35-DVD Writer-LG 4163B
    £80-Graphics card-Radeon X700 (DVI/VGA/Component)

    Total=£700

    Pretty much covers all your needs...., you can get most of your component from www.overclockers.co.uk

    If oyu don't want to build it yourself find someoen who will build it for you...

    I expect to upscale Sky + to whatever resolution tv I buy - most likely 720p

    Can you feed 5.1 into the PC? If the sound runs seperately do you have sync problems?
