My current TV has blown up and gone to TV heaven. Home cinema RIP. So I need to buy a replacement quickly. :(

Ideally, I'd like a 42/43 inch plasma which is HD Ready. The main contenders seem to be the Pioneer PDP-435XDE/FDE and Panasonic TH-42PV500B. [ Are there any others? ]

I've seen the Pioneer in person several times but have only read about the Panasonic. I realise the Panasonic isn't available for sale yet, but does anyone know where there is one on display/demo in London? I'll be able to know then if it's worth waiting the extra few weeks for the Panasonic. :lease:

    Many thanks,

    Chris

    I don't know, I'm from Holland.

But I asure you that it'll be worthwhile to wait. I saw it last week (at the Panasonic showroom) and it was awsome.

    Thanks Mr. G.

Have you directly compared it to the Pioneer PDP-435XDE/FDE? In your opinion how did the picture quality differ? Can you describe it?

To my eyes the Pioneer looks a little "fuzzy" even when compared to other plasmas.

What about the Hitachi 7200, with motorised screen? It has a good review in one of the mags I saw today (can't remember which one). Is a motorised screen just a gimmick though?

Don'know about the hitachi but I think it's much better then the Pioneer. It's black's are really black it has much more depht and the colours are more vivid.

But you can also see it when you compare the stats of the 2 screens:

contrast ratio is 3000:1 for the panny and 1200:1 for the Pio
And the Panny is much cheaper, at least here in Holland.

The Pioneer has 1 big advantage I think. It looks better if you don't use the speakers and it has an external tuner, so you only need to make 2 cables invissible

I'm not too keen on the Hitachi because of the ALiS technology. I'd much rather replace my CRT with a display that is definitely and 100 % progressive. :smashin:

However, back to the original question. I take it that there is not a single Panasonic TH-42PV500B on display anywhere in the whole of London?

    Cheers,

    Chris
