The launch was day of London bombings.....Elliot and I were on our way when it was cancelled. Re-launch was last week. Elliot will have his demo unit by time we return from CEDIA USA on Sept12th....possibly even before. I'll be having a play as soon as possible

Matt: We are not allowed to talk about specific pricing on the forum. Please contact me directly if you want that sort of info.

I can tell you the price includes the mount and I thiink it is with spare lamp. The 1080P @50 and 60 is not going to be on the first units going to dealers. Elliot has specified that he wants it on their one though. I do not know if it will be a retro-fit at ths time.

The PJ demo unit will probably end up being a bit.....special......I have a meeting arranged at CEDIA USA specifically about this......can't say anymore....hahahaha...

The Qualia 004 may become a fabled collector's item. Sony has announced that it is to cease development of the Qualia product line - which means that some new products will not see the light of day and existing ones will be wound down.

Although this article goes further and states that the high-end Qualia line is being "killed off", there is speculation on avsforums that since the 004 is in production it may be maintained until 2007. Who knows?

Talk about bad timing. The Qualia 004 has been around for well over a year (in the U.S.) - and a week before its inaugural demo in the U.K. Sony ceases development  .

If it had happened a couple of weeks ago, Elliot could have snuck an extra one in his suitcase and brought it back to auction it off ;)

Maybe Sony will just rebadge the 004 the "VW200" and keep developing it that way?

All my info suggests 004 will not change, but the rest of the range will be filtered down. And believe me i would not be investing in a demo model if i thought it would be a risk.

In the last few years Sony have been very active in projector development, first with 1080 SXRD and Qualia 004 then stirring up the LCD market with dynamic iris on the HS50, now combining the iris with SXRD to throw down the gauntlet amongst the high-end DLP manufacturers. Now we hear that they've developed an LCD darkening layer for the HS60. I can't believe they would put in all that leg work and not stay around to collect. I'd have thought they would want to recoup that investment.

In terms of their projector business model it may just mean that some of their "deep future" projects such as Grating Light Valve technology will have to revalidate their business cases if they have to compete for a reduced development budget.

The inside information is that Qualia 004 will live on at least a couple of years. Nothing is certain in this world but it is a great product with features still not matched by another product in its price range.
