When will the clapping stop?

<-- knew

It's the 72nd Anniversary of the NHS on 5th July Annual nationwide clap to thank NHS set for 5 July

How are we supposed to celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the NHS every year? :)

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for point sized based celebrations, but do people still need the 'get out of ICU free' card / virtue signalling shenanigans any more when they are doing whatever the hell they want?

We would celebrate the 73rd next year, but you knew that :p It does seem a bit contrived, if it had been in sync with the 75th anniversary of VE Day it would have made a lot more sense. And of course why every year from now on?

Someone thinks distractions will calm the public down?

It does explain a lot though.

Well I went out to clap and only one other person came out. I think everyone forgot, or think it's at 8pm again. Or perhaps watching the footy/F1.

Out with a whimper perhaps (don't know whether everyone else here saw clapping), this is what I always didn't want to happen.

Well, my asshole neighbours missed a "LOOK AT US! LOOK AT US! WE CRAVE YOUR ATTENTION!" opportunity. Nice.

There was. Although it appears many weren't privy to the information or weren't bothered. Now the pubs are open!

First time I'd been out as well since I stopped, but thought seeing as it's something a bit different.

Yes I'm sure now that the pubs are open people will care less.

I haven’t missed the inevitable piles of vomit outside my local country pub that there were from last night.

Bad enough tilly eating a whole pigeon wing yesterday on our walk (didn't notice til too late 😒) and now I'm back to having to stop her eating the sick piles too 🤮

Was there a clapping today?

It was intended as the start of an annual clap to celebrate the establishment of the NHS 72 years ago. All seemed rather contrived so we intentionally avoided it. Didn't hear anyone else either.

Nothing here, even from the GP and his wife who works at the local hospital.

Previously, they've brought out half the kitchen utensils to "treat" us to a percussion band.

That's why I think it's just passed many people by and they've forgotten. The same character's weren't out by ours either, which I thought was very odd.

People think it has gone away. Life is slowly getting back to normal.

Deaths are creeping down (far too slowly).

It appears that people no longer need to put on virtue signalling pony shows for all to see, despite how big a dick they've been all week.

"Social distancing? Screw that! I'm off out... I'll be alright if I clap on a Thursday night. It's like church isn't it... [cough]..."

Clapping was only relevant when people were bored and needed some attention, the focus wasn't on the NHS it was on how much attention each household could get, with a few genuine grateful people thrown in. Now the pubs are open most of the public couldn't give 2 monkeys about the NHS or clapping for it. We have proven how disgusting we are through this pandemic, and the same to be said coming out of it (and back in shortly I expect now everyone is outside licking everything).

Oh fudge it's back ...
If some of the strongest clappers in my street really cared, they wouldn't be flouting distancing and socialising rules all the fudgeing time

Can't see if taking off like last time. Sure they'll be a few die hards but I think most people have knocked it on the head for good.
