I'm after one, but i want to make sure i buy the one with the new circuitry design. Or have i got it wrong?, and is the A85 in fact new to the range thus has the new circuitry. If it has been updated ,how can i spot the difference? cheers (sorry if that sounds a bit Irish... I am)

I think that there has only been one circuit design.

You can check the software version by holding down the phono/aux, tuner and dvd buttons on the front simultaneously. I think that version 2.2 is the latest. I believe that version >= 2.0 gives you the option to configure the tape 1 loop as a fixed level input and previous versions don't.

See http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33673 for a discussion of the bugs fixed between version 2.1 and 2.2.

On it's site, it mentions the new circuitry design. So did it come togather with the amp at the same time?

    Cheers pal ;)

I think that the site is just comparing the A85 to the old Alpha range which it supercedes.

    Perhaps Arcam can clarify?

Yup, only one circuit design, which is different from any previous models made by Arcam (or anyone else for that matter).

The comments on software are correct too. Older software can be factory upgraded if required.

    HTH,

    John Dawson (Arcam)

    John,

Your mention of software upgrades has got me thinking (dangerous, I know) - were there ever upgrades for the Alpha 10 and/or DAVE?

The reason I ask is that I have the digital out from my Sky+ box connected to the optical input on my DAVE and when I change channels I do not always get any sound. If I change mode (i.e. Digital Stereo to Digital Pro Logic or vice versa) then the sound always re-appears. Just wondered if you'd ever come across this and if it was possible to fix. It's not a big deal, it's just slightly irritating.

    Cheers,
    Liam
