    Hello People,
I wonder if anyone heard anything?

B&W have now refreshed their whole range, the current diamonds are 5 years old(?).
I'm tempted to consider upgrading my CM10s...

    Thanks!

Well, I think it's soon. Almost every dealer is trying to move on demo stock. That means if you want to go down the diamond route it is a very good time:

    a) if you can afford the new models (which inevitably be more expensive than the last models) then you can buy them when they are new out.

    b) if you want ex demo then you have a lot of choice. The value is likely to be preserved reasonably well once the ex demo units disappear given the probable price hike on new ones.

    c) used prices are likely to go up after the new model comes out. This happened last time round as again, the price increase means that the used market is more of a sellers market because the new ones aren't affordable and ex demo is non existent.

I bought my 802s last year ex demo as I knew if a new model came out soon after I wasn't going to be able to afford it anyway at new prices, an exaggerated version of the fact I couldn't afford the current ones at RR, and ex demo won't be an option for a year or two after launch. And if the lesser models are an improvement on the 802s I could probably afford the swap if I wanted to.

FWIW, the N range went for 7 years, 98 to 05 and the D and S series ran from 05 to 10

    Thanks Tom,
Why do you assume prices will increase? That didn't happen with the new 600 and CM series...?

Also, can we expect substantial performance improvement between generations of diamonds?

I have seen postings on another forum that suggest a 30% increase in price for the 800 series. I have been expecting B&W to ditch Kevlar for a lighter/faster midrange material so we may soon find out. Also, different cabinet construction is expected. The non Kevlar mods are only my speculation, the first and last come from the other forum.

They did! About ten percent IIRC.

And the prices always go up significantly on 800 series. N802s were about 6 grand new IIRC. Normally around 25 percent increase

It wouldn't surprise me if they go for a completely different design

No idea, can't really get that much better can they?

Wouldn't surprise me if they do either an active version, ie with an active crossover but no inbuilt amps, or external crossovers or bypassable crossovers. Would be an easy way to improve performance.
