Wheel well sub enclosure

Hi what is the best way to make a wheel well sub enclosure? I have a 12W0-8 JL audio sub and my wheel well is around 21" in diameter. I can use fibreglass so i was thinking of basically fibreglassing the wheel well and putting a mdf 'lid' on it? Or would i be best off making 2 discs and making a circular box then coating it in FG for strength? Thanks

Hi Bola, welcome to the forum.

Remove the wheel securing rod ( its welded to the body)
LINE the area with tape/foil etc
FG the whole area/multilayer ( around 3/4 at least)
Dont forget loads of sanding and loads of wadding/sound deadening material in the box/enc.

For that sub you need 1.5cuft for a sealed enclosure

as long as its a rigid enclosure you will be fine, but FG is usually the easiest way

I agree with the previous post regarding sound deadening but not wadding as adding wadding makes the enclosure appear bigger to the sub. only add wadding if you cant get 1.5cu ft out of your wheel well (which shouldn't be a problem)
