I have recently bought a Sony 870 DVD HDD recorder and being a 74 year old thicko I can not figure out what is wrong when I play back a HDD recording. This is the resulting play back picture I get on the TV screen It is a flickering black and white speckled picture with a lines across.

The latest Sony 870 DVD HDD recorder at present connected only to a LG 15 LCD TV ( model 15LCIR) connected via a co-ax cable daisy chained through the recorder to the TV. I dont think it is a co-ax problem because there is a good analogue picture when the recorder is turned off. It is also connected via a scart cable. The TV has 1 scart socket and the recorder has 2 sockets. Recordings were from BBC 1 and Channel 4, I can get clear recorder menu screens onto the TV. The recordings (that are faulty on playback) were from both the manual timer and the EPG. As I have said new technology is a bit beyond me but it does seem to me I have messed up one of the settings
