Probably the most eagerly awaited DVD of all time and still you look to save the odd quid here and there....I don't geddit! It's the Star Wars Trilogy, it's officially available on DVD...go buy. Is the whole package worth £30? ....That's a tenner for each film plus you get a bonus disc thrown in. An absolute steal in my books. Yet the average price is around £25-28 and still you look to save Personally i'm not a fan but I do see the appeal and agree they are classics. Three classic films and a bonus disc for £30 is a bargain to me. If Star Wars ep 4 was released on it's own (no trilogy) would you consider £10 for it a bargain?
If the Star Wars Trilogy was the only dvd I was going to buy this month, I might agree with you, but watching lots of dvds makes me acutely aware of pricing and if for a given budget each month I can buy 4 or 5 additional titles by watching the price and buying accordingly then that's the way for me. Look at it this way, the Trilogy is 54.99 in HMV in Dublin at the moment. I paid 32 (about £21) for it - a substantial saving that can be put to better use buying something else that I fancy..... S.
The internet, and this forum in particular is a great source for members to sniff out the best prices for our CD's and DVD's, and share the information. Personally I think it's part of the fun and enjoyment scouring the various websites trying to get the best price, and saving money too. There are enough greedy organisations out there, witness the threatened legal action by the B.P.I. (British Pornographic Society) against CDWOW, because they were offering their customers goods which were significantly cheaper than the BPI's corrupt cosy cartel outlets. There's nothing wrong in seeking out a bargain, whatever it is, and I'm not aware of Blunkett and his dog making it a crime...well not yet anyway.
Not to mention the fact that a lot of the people who frequent this forum buy a hell of a lot of dvd's. Even a pound here and there soon adds up across a year.
Over the years there have been a lot of good bargains on here that I have managed to get. full monty for £1.50 inc del, complete Phoenix nights box set £15 inc del,Pinochio for £4.63 inc del, Simpsons box sets £15.98 inc del and so forth. I am most gratefull to the people who post these bargains and I hope it continues. Dave.
Hey Kevo, so you've never hunted around for the best deal before buying? If I had bought it a few weeks in advance I would have been very happy paying £26.99 or whatever, but I never got round to it (holidays n stuff). Just so happens on my return that an even better offer is lurking. Who are you to tell people what they should and shouldn't pay and when they should do it? When you are ready to buy be it a month in advance or a week after release, common sense tells you to buy for the best price you can get it for. If someone waits and waits for a better price, then they are either skint, tight or don't want it bad enough (or all three). Simple. It's no skin off your nose is it? Leave them alone. Buy what you want, when you want for a price you're happy with and expect everyone else to do the same. Now post something useful (like a link to Star Wars for £19.99 for example) and leave us alone.
Lighten up everyone, nothing more than a Friday afternoon 'light hearted' post. Dude1971, just don't like it enough to buy it that's all. It's OK, I saw it at the filx and on video way back. Hasn't aged well and I cringe at some of the dialogue.
Kevo, Didn't take it too seriously..... Oh goody....... /me dons flame-proof suit.... even now I can hear the "Whoooovm" of Light Sabres being readied to defend The force against such calumny !!! Sean.
Perhaps if you're not worried about rhe extra money spent you can buy the cheaper ones anyway and send me the rest of your cash - you obviously wont miss it I await my first cheque with eager anticipation. Many thanks!
Assuming that most people have a finite amount of money they have to spend, it makes sense to maximise your enjoyment from that money available. Why pay more than you have to. Simple really.
