Subject line says it all, really.
I've just thought of a seriously dissapointing sequel that isn't in my list. Has anyone seen a rather odd film called "Flesh Gordon"? (Yes, that really should be an "e" and not an "a" in the first word). Made round about 1973 it's a sort of soft-core porno spoof. This was some years before the famous Sam Jones/Brian Blessed/Topol/Timothy Dalton/Max Von Sydow film, so it parodies the original comic strip, and particularly the black and white Buster Crabbe serials. It's actually very funny in a rather low sort of way - might appeal to fans of either Red Dwarf or Animal House. There was a sequel made much later (1992?) called "Flesh Gordon Meets The Cosmic Cheerleaders" and it is one of the most embarassingly awful things ever created. More scatological than sexy, not a hint of a talent on display from anyone involved. (Except possibly the guy who came up with the idea of a spaceship that is powered by the sexual energy of copulating chickens - that's a nice concept).
I would have said Predator 2 or Jurassic park 2 but neither are in your poll .
What about Scream 3?
From the ones there (that I've seen) I picked Conan. Saw it when I was a kid and fell asleep. Watched it again a day later and fell asleep again
Blues Brothers 2000 tops my list
Call me a heretic but I expected more from Lord of the Rings part II, I must say. Not to say that it wasn't a good film - I just thought it would be a little better.
Hellraiser IV: Bloodline.
I need say no more
I havent seen the film but I have seen pictures of the spaceships which looked like phallic symbols.
Men In Black 2 certainly was number 2.
Star Wars AOTC would have won my vote
Scary Movie 2
Grease 2 - utter dire
I still think it was meant to be a spoof!
Where on your list is Speed 2?
Mind you, I didn't watch it all as I fell asleep.
There are lots of movies with dissapointing sequals/prequals
but IMO Speed 2 is the worst when you consider just how
fast paced and exciting the original was. Even Keanu Reeves
had the common sense to turn down the sequal after reading
I have an idea for Speed 3. There was this Train......
Turbulence with Ray Liotta was an OK film.
Turbulence 2 - "The Fear of Flying" is the biggest pile of cack!
Looks like they used the same airplane set from the orignal film for the second film. This is the only connection between the two films.
excorcist 2 the heretic was a massive dissappointment, although the third installment redeemed it somewhat.
from the list the phantom menace got my vote.
Jaws 2.... The original Jaws was a classic, a real edge-of-the-seat original, and only something like 4 or 5 people were killed inthe whole movie. Jaws 2 was utter cack, with the concept based on sensationalism rather than suspense.
it was a tad better than part 3 or 4 though!
I was highly disappointed in Crusade, the stories were not up to much especially after the brilliant Babylon 5.
It left a some questions un-answered, did they find a cure for the plague and what happened to that time bomb that Londo gave Sheridan, which I was hoping would come to some conclusion in Crusade.
For me you cannot put Alien3 & AlienRessurection in the same bracket... Alien 3 wasn't great, but it was nowhere near as godawful as Resurrection
I suppose the absolute worst has to be Phantom Menace
Prequel wise I'd have to say Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the 1992 film with Kristy Swanson, hard to explain how poor this movie is. If it wasn't for Kristy being such a lovely gal it would have been even worse.
P.S - Technically it is a prequel as the events in it happened before Buffy came on TV in 1997 <---- don't even go there with the double entendre
RoboCop 2 is mine. Where did it all go wong?
Most disappointing sequel and u name alien3 and alien resurrection in the same breath ? alien 3 is underrated wot a way to end the alien series of films and have ripley die a hero's death alien resurrection was complete ******** and should never have been made, worst sequel for me is Speed 2 utter tripe compared to the original
Without turning in this into a which alien film was the best or worst it seem where these two films are concerned it is one mans meat is an others mans poison.
Im with you on the Speed 2 film after the good Speed, 2 was truly a dire outing with a near slapstick ending.
what do you mean near slapstick? that ocean liner must have been an amphibious vehicle it eventually parked up in the middle of town! I would vote Speed 2 but phantom menace killed something I had been waiting for for years so that gets my vote.
Thats what I was on about. They had a similar sequence in Con-Air but that film seems to have a lot of fans.
isn`t it just the original not the prequel? otherwise every film that has a sequel can class the original as a prequel
Yes I would agree if anything the TV series Buffy was the sequel, as would be Stargate. Where as Star Trek the Motion picture would have to be a sequel following the same logic.(which film could come into the thread title).
B5: Crusade was axed after the first series - no doubt Stracynski intended it to run for five seasons. I must confess I had my doubts about it long before I actually saw any of it, because there was an interview with Stracynski in which he said that Crusade would be "more action-oriented" than Babylon 5 with "less politics". My heart sank then and there: it was precisely the politics that made Babylon 5 so very exceptional. Worryingly he has said almost exactly the same thing about this new series - "The Rangers", or whatever it's going to be called.
American Psycho 2 turned into a dire teen thing. That girl heading the cast needs a visit from Bateman.
Return of the Jedi sucked with those teddies. LOTR is weak to Twin Towers. The Mummy Returns had a Lucas fit and went kiddie. Lots more but I can already feel the flames on me ass.
