i think my longest session was 15 hours, but i did take a week off work and play it every day for about 15 hours..

That is bad when a game takes over your life so much - i've almost gone there with a couple of MMORPG's (namely DAOC and Anarchy Online). My mates actually went further and I don't think I actually saw them in real life for a couple of months at least lol!

Like everything else in life, I guess the secret is keeping a healthy balance (hmm sounds like one of those yoghurt drink adverts!) - same goes for going out drinking with mates, spending time with your girl/boyfriend, wife/husband, working etc. If you do any to excess then the other things in your life will suffer.

I've been playing it since the original back in 92 on the PC.

Since then I've had every version, including CM 93 on the Amiga.

A flatmate and I played it non stop for about 16 hours once, which when you think about it is quite a long time to be in such close proximity with someone else. Mind you, half the time was spent waiting for my 486 25mhz beast to do its processing, and the other half was spent with him scouring the transfer market. :boring:

It's a fantastic game. It's such a shame that I can't get anyone else to come to my house for a decent multiplayer game of it - it just takes too long.

Still, in a couple of years I'll be able to instruct my eldest in the ways of ChampMan.

why don't you get CM 03 04 (or get Football Manager 2005 later this year. NOT Championship Manager 5, FM2005 is the true sequel) They have online capabilities and you can usually find a league to play in by joining some CM forums.

    I've got CM 03/04.

I haven't tried the online play, but to be honest I'd much rather have the experience of someone else at the PC with me or just stick to single player.

It's a good laptop game where I can sit in the front room, talk to my missus, watch TV and struggle to get Sunderland back in the top flight. :clown:

So the longest playing a version of CM was a whole weekend .. it was planned with about 4 of us ... playing it on a 486 ... I think we got just into season 3 .. we had about an hour break between seasons as everything got refreshed ... what a game tho - so addictive and i agree a nice one to have on the old laptop. The funny thing looking back was the amount of times we would spot some foreign talent in the game .. and then about 3 years later some premiership club would snap him up and he would be cracking ... all expect ibrahim bakayoko who was amazing in the game .. then i think everton bought him .. we waited for the next superstar and he turned out to be a donkey :)

I blame that game for ruining my eye sight (cue jokes), a couple of years ago i played about 20hrs straight, use to play it everyday for weeks. Lent it to my friends dad who never played computer games and it nearly caused break up of his marriage (not joking).
Funny enough he said it messed up his eyes too.
    Most addictive game ever.

I heard (not sure whether it was true or not) that several top flight managers were CM fans. I'm certain that Kenny Dalgleish was one.

Apparently Jose Mourinho enjoys a bit of Champ Man himself. The former AC Milan midfielder Demetrio Albertini was also known to be a fan.

Personally, I think the game is fantastic. I try to restrict myself to only playing it for 2-3 hours at a time, but you can get carried away so easily. Longest time spent relegating my team was about 7 hours solid.

Cm is just soooo adictive its unbelievable!

I have a game going at the moment with 5 of us taking teams in the premiership. Its takes a v v long time to complete a season with that number of people playing but we are on 2010 / 2011 season.

Many a night including the odd tin of beer spent happily punching the monitor and shouting at players that cant pass the ball properly!

So whats the biz about the next edition? the next CM isn't a proper CM because the game designers have left, is that right?

yeah. Eidos and SIGames parted company, Eidos got the name and SI got the code. Therefore Championship Manager 5 is by Eidos/Beautiful Game Studios and Football Manager 2005 is by Sega/SIGames

Thus far FM2005 is looking the better proposition.

On the team formation screen there is a "CAPT" icon over a player, you just drag it to another player. BUT there is a bug in CM4 where it just randomly changes your captain to another player, so make sure you download all the patches before you play!

Looking forward to FM2005. I think its due December?

6 hours is not unusual for me as a playing period of CM 03/04.
