How long are these plasma screens supposed to last, compared with large CRTs ? Somone told me, that it wasn't quite as long, I thought otherwise, so I am interested to find out the truth. Anybody know ?

Most manufacturers quote around 30,000 hours to half brightness, which even with manic viewing is still going to give you 10 years +, which is comparable with traditional CRT.

My Phillips has just failed at 28months watching no more than 6 hrs per day. Just over 5000 hours by my calculations.

Makes a 5 year warranty seem like a good idea

    What type of failure?

The figure of 30,000 hours is for the longevity of the phosphors within the glass only, not for any mechanical or electrical failure, which any CRT, RPTV or projector would be subject too.

Don't know the technicalities, but was told the display had failed. Cost of replacement including labour = £2357.12.

    Seemed pretty major to me
