What is the best Sub below £1,500, I only want to use it for movies?
Paradigm Servo-15 - from Richer Sounds - you may have to wait awhile to get one though.
Just about £1500 - Velodyne HGS-15 - see Uncle Eric's power buy thread.
i went to richer at the weekend ,and surprise surprise, anything that resembled a decent sub was unavailable they did however have plenty of the cheapo ones[which i have been informed, are totally overpriced, and only suitable for really cheap set ups, even below budget range!!]you have to be forcefull in what you want, as they seem to want to keep the good stuff for there window displays, and ply off the eltax stuff to you instead.
You can add the Velodyne CHT15 to the list (available from the Power Buys Forum for 684 quid and currently in stock ).
Could always buy two if you fancy spending nearly all your budget.
For that money you could import a SVS CS-Ultra and a 1000 watt sampson amplifier from America.
Seriously loud, cleen and low bass
Thanks guys fo your help
I certainly had in mond both the Paradigm servo15 (if you can get hold of one) and the Velodyne HGS 15. I really want to have one where not only can you hear it but feel it as well
Does anyone have any experience of the Paradigm and the Velo HGS15 back to back? or for that matter two smaller subs like the Velo Cht 15 and one HGS15?
Uncle Eric could probably answer your Q on the twin CHTs vs a single HGS, but as for the servo 15 vs CHT 15, well thats been a source of endless debate on this forum.
I'm pretty sure that no-one on here has heard them back to back.
Just do a search and enjoy the wealth of info/discussion/heated debate/flat out arguments on here
Shouldn't that be felt them back to back!!
Good point Soundog
Richersounds are importing a batch this month sometime, give them a ring.
I think Eric's reply to this question was a single HGS is more easily setup, so my well be the best option. I think the thread is in the powerbuy section if you want to take a look.
I'd be a bit uneasy about importing a power amp from america. Things that use that much electricity can be jumpy switching from 110 volts to 220, I'm told that even the change in frequency from 60Hz to 50 can be an issue sometimes.
You also have to be careful about the price - allow for VAT, import duty, carriage, less-than-ideal exchange rate between sterling and dollar on your credit card, then there's the question of what happens if it's DOA because the courier dropped it in transit and won't admit it....
This week the shipment arrives actually, move fast
OMG! I was expecting the shipment to arrive at the end of the month from what Nick Halliday said. As RS haven't replyed to my e-mails I guess I'd better ring them tomorrow and hammer the plastic some more.
I have been in touch with Richersounds and they do not have a confirmed date yet, they are expected at the end of this month sometime
Time really drags when you have to wait, the CHT 15 keeps calling to me..........
If you only want it for films I would go with the Servo 15, you are unlikely to be able to hear the benefit of any of the higher specification Velodynes.
I have a pair of Servo 15's and a DIY dual 15" IB sub driven by some pretty decent monoblocs, the DIY sub beats the Servo 15 on sound quality but the difference is only noticeable when used with music.
£1500 = three servos.
One keeps me grinning like a loon.
The thought of Two Servo 15's interest me
Trouble is can RS supply them?
I notice a few people use two, what are the do's and don'ts,? cables, adaptors, positioning etc
Do RS sell the Servo sell them in the wood veneer version?
Thanks for everyone's viewa, much appreciated.
The Servo 15 is available in Cherry veneer, take a look here.
I have asked for the numbers and finishes that they are bringing in and will post these details when I hear from them for those that are interested.
Thanks Zig, I'll certainly be interested in the Cherry Veneer
LMAO @ Richer Sounds, only 5 days ago they said it was definitely this week when I rang the mail order line, I think N Halliday rows across from Canada with the bulk orders
He must be a slow rower
I think I might go and look for him and give him a tow
