Ok I have had a little lok through the forums and cant find a poll that is the same as this so hopefuly we are not going over to much old ground. I have seen a few threads about startrek recently and even started one so, as the title of the thread really., what in your opinion is the best startrek movie and why.

For me its got to be startrek 2, those of you who have seen previous posts of mine will be no stranger to the fact that I love this movie.
The acting from the leads is top notch as is the musical score and the direction form nick Meyer is just what the franchise needed to keep it afloat at the time. I like the other films, but for me the battle in the mutara nebular and the genesis count down at the end are my asolute favorite trek movie moments and is what takes this movie ,for me above ,the rest of them

For me its got to be the first film simply cos I grew up with Star Trek in the 60s, and I thought the much loved show was dead for good when it ended. Then all of a sudden to see it on the big screen with the wonderful intro to the Enterprise looking meaner and faster than I ever thought possible was wonderful back in 79. Add to that what I think is a very imaginative story with (what was back then in 79) some pretty amazing special effects. OK its not as action orientated as some of the others and its a little slow in places but for me its the one that brought the original (and best) Star Trek crew back together so is the one im fondest of

First Contact for me, I'm a sucker for the Borg. Wrath of Khan is a close second. :)

my vote went for first contact purely for the scene where the borg queen's head comes down from the ceiling and attatches itself to her body

    First Contact definitely no.1

Loved the fight against the borg ship at the beginning. Data was superb in this film. Loved the way it explains first contact. It was just a great story line and very well executed. :smashin: :smashin:

    Nemesis for me.

Yeah I watched the reruns of TOS in the eighties but it was TNG that really got me into Trek.

For me Nemesis held all of the elements from the series that I really loved.

I must admit I thought this movie was pretty good, and yet it is seen by many as one of the worst trek movies

Wrath of Khan - I felt it was more of a true movie and darker than the others.

The next generations film were ok, but I felt they were more extended TV programmes.

Star Trek 2 - Wrath of Khan

I have a soft spot for the original Motion Picture although the script is a little wooden the big budget look has never really been bettered in a Star Trek flick.

Star Trek 6 Undiscovered Country and First Contact are my second and third favourites.

Well I've voted for number 4 (is that the one with the whales :D )

edit: guess i'm the only one that thinks so  :rotfl:

I think it's been said before that 4 is the most accessable film for non-trek fans.

Personally, I think it's great

Theoretically the next Star Trek film (if ever) should be rubbish. All the odd numbered Star Treks haven't done too well.

It's got to be The Wrath of Khan (1982) with Ricardo Montalban (Khan Noonien Singh). :smashin:
Ricardo plays Khan brilliantly. When I first saw him in Star Trek (The Original series) episode Space Seed, he just outshone anyone else in the story. He plays the baddy with a calm, smiling and devious attitude and your not sure what he's going to do next. He's one of my favourite actors and this movie continued a good storyline with the same actor. The music score is the best of all of the movies and samples from this movie have been used in the other films made since. The battle scene in the Mutara Nebula is ace.

Wrath of Khan for all the reasons above, the music is excellent, the only movie soundtrack i actually have!

Second for me is First Contact, cracking stuff all the way through,

Third Nemesis, people had had enough of ST when this came along, but it is a very good film and story, if it had come along at the time of First Contact it would have done really well.

and insurrection was a good film too, but again, Star Trek had peaked by the time this came out...

First Contact for me as well - excellent storyline and some kickass action too.

I like the fact that Zephram Cochran isn't really a hero, but a grease monkey with a drink problem and a bad attitude, yet is thought of as the glowing saintly saviour of mankind - quite cool to have the TNG crew have their history debunked a little.

After much deliberation, it has to be....[Shat mode on]
    ...."Kkhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnn!!!!!!" :D

Always a close one between this and 'Undiscovered Country' as the best Trek movie for me, with 'First Contact' coming in third.

Star trek TMP simply because its the first big screen outing of the refitted great white bird, watched it in 1980 along with several hundred soaking wet fans (we had to queue outside in torrential rain) in a cramped birmingham city centre fleapit, but once jerry goldsmiths magnificent score rang out, we all forgot our foibles (cramped seating, expensive snacks and generally being cold and wet) and enjoyed a great, if slightly overlong big screen debute.

there is a great line in a futurama episode which featured the original cast.

Bill shantner does the KhannNNN bit, but what I found more funny was...

Nimoy "In startrek 4 I got a great performance out of bill because I respected him so much.

Shatner " and in startrek 5 i got a great performance out of me, because I respected me so much!"

I forgot which cinema it was but it was on birmingham city centre's new street before it was pedestrianised, but its been demolished for some time now.
Just a pity it was'nt shown at the gaumont in colmore row, as at the time, it had the biggest screen in europe!
