What's the best on ear headphones for £300

It's only to listen to movies while the wife is in bed, must have a 3-4 metre cable length to plug into my av amp?

The best are open back so not ideal for trying not to disturb someone next to you.

I assume you want closed rather than open?

When you say 'on ear' do you mean that specifically, or would over-ear do as well?

You could look at a few of these options:

AKG K550 (fairly neutral sound)
Beyerdynamic DT770 (bassy) or DT660 (neutral)
Shure SRH940 (neutral)
Denon D600 (bassy)

For on-ear:

KEF M500 - balanced, neutral, top detail
Sennheiser Momentum - warm, separation, soundstage
Aedle VK-1 - exciting, good bass and mids

For over-ear:

Shure SRH940 - balanced, neutral, top detail
Sennheiser HD7 - good low-mids, dynamic, clarity
Final Audio Pandora Hope IV - exciting, good bass and mids
