Hi all, just got my Panny BD35 today and got the 42PZ80 coming next week. So, I need somethiung I can play that the wife will go "Wow!!" - not "...why did you spend all that money??" :suicide:

So, whats the stand out BR disc for you guys? I was going to go for Planet Earth but just read your reviews on this and quite a few are dissappointed. :D

    Batman the dark knight
my first bluray movie was transformers and that wasnt so good i was beggining think my money had gone 2 waste however when i got the dark knight that is what made me change my mind about bluray.
whenever anyone comes round that is the movie that is been played to impress everyone (iv become sick of it now!) lol

If was to choose from my own collection then I would have to say Disney's "Cars" closely followed by Batman Dark Knight (especially for the Imax Scenes) I too am watching on a 42PZ80 but with a Sony S350 Player

My current favorite for picture quality is Baraka.
All of the Pixar Blurays are worth getting but Ratatouille is the most entertaining to me.
As for Planet Earth, you are getting 9 hours of hd footage and Sir David Attenborough's masterly commentary for £25(bought online). Yes, some of the scenes may have only 'good' picture quality as opposed to the majority which is spectacular. Some people will never be satisfied. In my opinion it's a bargain and a must have title.
For action, have a look at Zulu. Once again the reviews have been variable but I was pleasantly surprised. The film benefits from the incredible South African scenery, deep blue skies and vibrant colours, especially the red uniforms of the soldiers.

Cars and Wall.E look fantastic,in fact i haven't seen a poor bluray yet, that includes films from the 50's and 60's.

The format is great, until the next one of course.:D

Has anyone seen 'Earth - The Power Of The Planet'. Is that better images than 'Planet Earth'?

I currently use Dr No to show how good an old film can look and the chase scene at the start Casino Royal.

Yeah but the films absolutely awful - i chucked it upstairs in the cupboard outta sight.
I didn't think Will Smith could stoop so low as to be involved in tripe like Hancock.
Many peoples 'Turkey of the year' and on a par with Indy 4.

Don't buy - great PQ or not.

Whilst not something I'd buy, I got Hancock on a rental and thoroughly enjoyed it, certainly a lot more than Indy 4 :)

The 1st half of the film ain't bad but the 2nd half is complete nonsense.2008 was NOT a good year for films - Iron Man and The Dark Knight were the best films of 2008 by a country mile.

QOS was a big disappointment,Indy 4 was dire,Narnia was poor, and Wanted was ridiculous (we take are orders from a hidden code weaved from a loom !!!!!) - utter crap.

Not seen Taken but i know a few reliable people who rate it so i'll probably get it soon.
    Thanks for the recommendation.

Forgot about Zodiac - stunning transfer as it was shot with HD cameras and the levels of detail are truly extraordinary.Top notch

Agree with you on most of those, except QOS, which I loved. Wanted was complete and utter rubbish, but it did at least look and sound pretty decent on Sky HD, no other redemming features at all though:D

QOS just seemed like a collection of poorly shot action scenes weaved around a shallow 'story' with rubbish characters. At the end i thought to myself - What have i actually learned in relation to Casino Royale's bigger central storyline ?? - not a lot.

A wasted opportunity as it tried to be like Bourne with fast cutting but failed miserably. All the Bourne films are far superior in every aspect as their central characters, story and action are totally engaging - QOS trys to be but is not - 2/5 imo. There's not 1 action scene that rivals anything in Casino Royale - please feel free to name one.

It doesn't work so well as a standalone movie, if you look it at as CR part 2 (much like Kill Bill 1 & 2) it works brilliantly, IMO.
