Question What's happened to the Q900T and Q950T Samsung soundbars?

Is this still a problem with the Q90R disconnecting?
I think asking that question won't help.
I have had both the Samsung HW-N950 and the LG SN11 RG and never suffered rear speakers disconnecting etc.
Also my rears sound loud enough on both, so it comes down to where you position the speakers, how far you sit from them, other WiFi hardware located nearby etc... too many variables.
e.g. the N950 has many reports of rears disconnecting, yet in the 2+ years I had mine, not once did it disconnect.

I agree, though towards the end of my ownership of the Q90R the sub would disconnect then the rears etc... I have once had disconnection issues with the SN11 as that uses WiFi to keep them connected and they never went out once. Richersounds said to me they hope the Q950T will connect the sub and rears via WiFi this time as even they are aware of the issues of disconnection Samsung bars had.

im going to get the Q950T with an open mind and give it a go. Whenever it comes out that is in the UK

If I was going to stick with sound bars... I would have also gone down this route and possibly the Klipsh Bar 54a. :D

Why aren’t you going back to sound bars? I know in most cases they can’t replicate a wired set up. For me a wired set up is too much hassle and its just easy to practically ‘plug in and plat’ kinda thing. I’m intrigued by the Q950T but i hope it beats the Q90 and the SN11. If not its going to go back and ill just get back the SN11 and await firmware updates as out of them all I preferred the SN11 minus the Q950T obviously as its not out yet. What i want to know is why in gods name did they put the screen on top? Like who’s going to sit watching and be able to see that screen? No one. I like to see the screen as I can see that the correct sound format is playing and engage e.g ATMOS, DTS:X

I had both the Samsung HW-N950 and LG SN11 RG and both had their issues..... having had a dedicated setup in the past I bit the bullet and have gone down the AVR + speaker route again albeit in a 5.1.2 configuration. (small room)

I agree with you, that sound bars won't replicate wired setups and they are easy plug & play options. However they are extremely good when it comes to Atmos effects and keeping the room clutter free and neat etc.

The Q950's LCD screen being on-top was one of those compromises Samsung had to make to make the sound bar even thinner, not great I know.
Personally I think sound bar's should go the other way..... go larger so that they can house bigger and better speaker drivers.

I found that my N950 was way better for the front sound output, most likely due to the larger drivers compared to the SN11, the SN11 suffered from muddy audio once the action picked up.

The reason I am not going back to sound bars...... is this...... :p

Is that your set up?! If so I love it, I don’t have the experience or money to be able to do that. That’s why I go for soundbars. Easy set up and go kinda thing. Like when I had the Q90R soundbar it was good but the no earc was a no go for me and just my luck. Months after selling it eARC came out. I’m still glad I went to SN11 to try it and it was good but as you said bugged.

Hi
I owned Q90R and had to send it back due to earc update that was not forthcoming and was not sure whether Samsung would do EARC update. I am now awaiting Q950R. I wanted to know if anyone has tried to play atmos movies from USB or a portable HDD and did the Soundbar passed the Atmos or DTS? I have a LG C9 and planning to purchase q950

Nice setup.
Probably as expensive as it looks too!

Same reason I sold mine. I bought it in October 18 they told me it was eARC when it never was and that was a Samsung Rep. even some reviews said it had eARC. So myself and others took to the internet and petitioned against Samsung and told reviewers that their reviews are false. In the end a lot of reviewers changed their reviews and agreed with us. Too late down this line after missed date, after missed date. I gave up and sold it months later earc came in the update. By then it was too late and I waited for the SN11.

Is this still a problem with the Q90R disconnecting?
Not really. It was mostly fixed with updates. If you have a router close by or a lot of wifi connected devices some people get interference, but there's ways to deal with that

Another review

He seems to be mostly positive about it. And he is an Aussie! Haha 😂
Great idea regarding using your phone to calibrate. R&D should definitely research that.
Seems the rears have been improved on.
Anyone know if they could increase the bass with a firmware update? Or would that be a hardware limitation?

I picked mine up today from The Good Guys. But I can't set it up until Tuesday. Moving house over the weekend. So I need to wall mount my Q75R 75" and Q950T. Will look sweet once they are both on the wall. Would having the sub directly under the soundbar square in the middle of the room be ok? Since I am wall mounting I thought for aesthetics it would look better.

£1599 isn't cheap... however if it's got the best parts of the Samsung Q90 and LG SN11 RG sound bars, its might be justified.
Yeah, and hopefully a little less buggy than the q90r. I’m going to wait a bit, I’m hoping the price might drop a little

Two well known sellers on ebay are selling the q950t for $1,107 and $1,177! Is this a special deal that I should take or is this a joke?

Can anyone verify that the earc can pass through for game systems hdmi2.1 I asked Samsung rep and they said yes however we all know how those guys can spin the truth. I have one of these on order hoping it works out they made it sound like the ports are hdmi 2.1 but I can’t find it anywhere in the literature

I’m not entirely sure, with the SN11 it states 2.1 HDMI on the specs sheet on the website but nothing else anywhere. If the tv is capable of those specs like mine LG C9 then I thought it would still work if it’s set to pass-through. I could be wrong, it might depend on what your tv is and what specs it has and features. As with earc and pass-through I Jsut thought I’d would just be the audio and everting else being done by the tv I’m not 100% sure but that’s just my theory on it.

I got the q950T on Wednesday and have been putting it through its paces coming from a samsung N950. The q950T definitely has better surround sound effects and I’ve been very impressed with how the subwoofer handles bass. I have had a strange issue occur a couple of times though, when watching movies on android TV OS the soundbar will stop playing sound and instead start playing a continuous clicking sound through the speakers until I reset the soundbar. I’m hoping its a firmware problem but I’m interested to know if anyone has had this problem occur.

For anyone else that owns this and has an xbox one, are you having trouble getting dolby atmos and dts:x over earc? Im running the xbox directly to my tv which is an earc comaptible tv, the sony x950G. Whenever I try to select atmos under the bitstream format on my xbox one it Says “check your audio receiver”. Internal apps work fine for passing through atmos via earc but It doesn’t seem to passthrough on the xbox. Anyone having similar issues or know of a fix besides directly connecting the xbox through the soundbar?

happy to answer questions for anyone that has any!

Can you verify if you hook up the Xbox through the soundbar do you still get vrr and all just trying to figure out if the new systems will be able to pass through the bar but I can’t find any info on Samsung’s website

I had the LG SN11 and returned it because the rears kept cutting out (constantly) and the sub lacked any type of power. I just got the 950T and as soon as I turned it on it was SIGNIFICANTLY better. The only thing I find now with the 950T is the inability to control volume on the rears.

When pressed, the setting items such as TREBLE, BASS, SYNC, CENTER LEVEL, SIDE
LEVEL, FRONT TOP LEVEL, REAR LEVEL, REAR TOP LEVEL, and VIRTUAL ON/OFF are
displayed in sequence. The desired item can be adjusted using the Up/Down buttons

I’m not able to test this unfortunately as my TV doesn’t have VRR. I have heard from a few people that it does though, hopefully it’s not too long until some official confirmation.

I’ve never had a problem with my Harmon kardon soundbar hooked up to a Sony it was the first version they made and sounds pretty darn good. However I worry about the fact that dts doesn’t seem to be able to be passed through earc which I would thing if it’s just a pass through it would handle it. Seems strange. I wish there was a way we could test these ports to see if they are 2.1 or verify then we could go right to those with new consoles and receivers then we could get dts before it gets to the tv. Unless someone has found a work around.

Thanks, saw that. Still find them a bit "quiet" even at 6...
