The Strata V and Stampede have barely hit the market and now I read that the entire ST line is being discontinued -- excpet for the Stentor III and Studio III -- and being replaced by the Britannia series!?

    http://www.sumikoaudio.net/rel/idx_b.htm

All of the Britannia subs are pretty $$$ (oops, sorry £££ :D ) and none are sealed like the Strata. They are all forward firing ARM loaded with a port.

Anybody had a chance to check one out yet?

Given the Brit flag-waving name and the "unconventional appearance" it may be aimed specifically at our cousins across the Pond. :p

I see they are quoting very low frequency response limits @ -6dB in room. :smashin:

A breath of fresh air compared with SVS. Who only give you a complete ground plane response curve.

It could be just a name change as I recall they have messed about with branding in the past with the now long forgotten Tsunami range.

REL used to sell that range in the North East as the Geordies thought it was pronounced Toon Army :D

Pah! Ian, next you'll be telling us that a certain satellite cartoon channel wasn't named specifically for us as well :D

Yesterday was the first I too had heard of the REL Britannia's when I saw an advertisement in the current issue of The Absolute Sound. When I searched the web, there was no info on REL's site, but I found this news story (5th story from the bottom of the page)

    http://www.avguide.com/inthenews/exclusive/loudspeakers_under.jsp

I then went to REL's US distributor, Sumiko Audio, and they had details for the Britannia subs (link above in original post). When I checked Sumiko's site under the ST range, it appears true, all of the ST subs except the Stentor and Studio were no longer listed.

I have spoken to REL myself who have confirmed the Britannia range is purely for the US market only and will not be replacing the ST series in the UK.

The subwoofer market in the UK is insignificant next to that in the US where people have bigger home cinemas and more disposable income.
Hardly surprising REL have made subs just for that market.

I'm all for adding new subs, but I'm not too keen on being deprived of the majority of the ST line to do so.

I guess I'll reserve further disappointment until after I see some reviews of the new Britannia line.
