    Take a look at this:

    http://www.dolby.com/events/CEDIA/PLIIx

The first and only to take a 2 channel signal and split it into 7.1 channels of discrete, full range sounds.

    The first and only?!?

What rubbish. Anyone ever heard of Lexicon and Harmon Kardon? They've been doing something called Logic7 for around 6 years now.

Who do dolby think they are.

They had a memory lapse with THX Ultra 2 Music and Movie modes as well, as they produce 7.1 from a 5.1 source (doesn't work with 2 channel sources though).

Read Dolby's press release properly guys! As I understand it, Logic 7 is for 2 channel to 7 channel conversion. DPL IIx is claimed to work with 2 or 5.1 channel sources and convert them into 6.1 or 7.1 presentations.

Semantics maybe, but that's part of the modern world of marketing!

DPL IIx sounded very good when I heard it last month at CEDIA by the way.

Does anybody else think they've made a marketing boo boo with the naming of it though? It sounds like a throw back to the analogue days...

As a Lexicon owner I can state that Logic7 converts 2 channel, 2 channel matrix and 5.1 audio into 7.1. This is regarless of format as well. Its been doing everything DPL IIx does for 6 years. Hardly innovative now.

    ShinObiWan.

You are over stepping the mark now, i hope that JD will continue to post here.
You are correct in that Logic7 can be overlaid on 2-5.1 channel inputs but your tone will win you no friends here
    Sincerely

    Steven (Not an Arcam owner)

    Logic 7 doesn't support a 6.1 setup though...

Marketing is all lies and half truths!

    Okies Ian,

You're right of course, I'm giving up the cigarettes at the moment and its all too easy to take the angst out on others. I would have thought that it would be getting easier now after almost two weeks but when you've smoked for over 6 years I guess it isn't.

John pay no attention to my comments and it seems Steve.EX has been fighting your corner in your absence anyway. I was right though :D

I stopped on New Year's Eve after 40 years of heavy smoking. It does get easier but it takes two years to get the nicotine out of your system. It's worth persevering though as I dread to think how much voluntary tax I have paid to the Chancellor over the years.

I'm hoping to put what I normally spent on cigarettes towards AV now ;)

I've made a decision to stop paying the chancellor any money, by buying duty free, and to put only the tax towards AV equipment.

    :D
