The cost makes it look very tempting. But Im not an LCD fan.

I debated LCD vs Plasma for months.

After viewing as many LCD's and Plasma's as possible I eventually came to the conclusion that Plasma is a much nicer image and to me it seems much more natural. I think an LCD image looks a bit sickly after a while and false somehow.

The problem though is that there are some well priced LCD's screens out there with all the gubbins.

Sony have dropped plasma. Make your own decision from that!

I could be wrong but I don't think Sony make LCD panels either?? A lot of their panels were Samsung manufactured.

When Sony put together these "other components" it's their expertise in electronics and TV's that go into the mix, such as WEGA, that make the difference.

well yes, but the point was the plasmas they put together were rubbish so no wonder they stopped doing it. It was nothing to do with LCD being better as was insinuated.

Plasma is much better for fast moving images and offers much higher contast. I have an 2 HD-Ready LCD's and one SD plasma and the plasma wins hands down. The only area my LCD's (Sammy LE32R41 and Dell W2600) beat my plasma (Panny PE50) is when they connect to my PC.

Modern LCD's are catching up to plasma, but they are still far behind on refresh rates (miliseconds vs miicroseconds for plasma).

There is a lot fundamentally wrong with LCDs in terms of movies. However for computer and games they have alot to offer.

Oh, and before I get flamed, I have a plasma and firmly believe that at a 37" plus at the moment it is the only way for a direct display screen. I am just seeing both sides. Something I don't see here that often.

I agree. LCD has its place but at the moment for larger displays I think Plasma has the edge. I have a pwd6 plasma downstairs and a 17" sony lcd in the bedroom for tv and gaming. I'm very happy with both.

I personally have no preference, although I would shy away from plasma due to the problems they tend to have with screen burn, especially as I do a large chunk of gaming on my tv.
