Hi i currently have Denon AVR-3300 Receiver and Pioneer 626D dvd player. I recently upgraded my speakers from Mission Cinema 7 to Ruark Prologue 1 (fronts) and Dialogue R (Centre).

Now my question is what would be my best upgrade path for Amp:

    1) Buy power amps like a rotel 5/7channel one - if so what make/model would peeps suggest ?

    2) Replace the AVR-3300 with a A1SE

Im looking for both good Cinema and HI-FI (Music) sound.

I will be upgrading the DVD player once the DVD-A and SACD formats have settled down a bit.

    Your advices much appriacted.

    I would get a Rotel 1075, and later a processor TAG AV32R...

Speaker upgrade made a huge difference, especially for Home Cinema - ive had to start watching all my DvD's again as the Raurks give out so much more detail and have a far better front sound stage.

I knew the missions were lacking in certain areas, dont get me wrong they are good speakers for the price, but the Ruarks just blow them away.

Not bad as i got them for half price :)

I just feel that my current amp isnt doing th speakers justice now, especially for HI-FI so am looking to upgrade.

Thanks for the advice so far - think ill go look at the prices for those items :)

One thing - it would appear that both the Rotel 1075 and Tag AV32R are only 5.1 - id rather perfer 7.1.

The Av32R is available as 7.1 (no such thing really, 6.1) and you could always add another Rotel amp as I did. I don't know of many 7 channel amps, most people would use a 5/2 or 3/2/2 in my case.

The Rotels are great home cinema amps. You might want to try something more high-end for music if you are a hi-fi freak. I find them OK on music, but may well change them at some point.

    Regards Rob.

    Thanks for the replies.

I wouldnt say im a hi-fi freak - much prefer Home Cinema to hi-fi, its just that i know my Denon AVR-3300 isnt giving me the best sound for Hi-Fi and would like to get the best out of my new speakers :) espcially once DVD-A or SACD takes off.

When i demo'ed the speakers they were on Meridian kit as well as hereing them on a Denon 3801 and sounded to dogs dangly bits on the Meridian kit, not bad on the 3801 but so much better on the Meridian - so want to get as close to that as i can on a reasonable budget :).

One other thing - would i need a specialist AMP to handle the 24/96 of DVD-A and SACD ????

Sorry for all the question - just want to get the best option :)

You might like to consider new model AVC-A1SE, which has an ultra high bandwidth digital link. The new DVD player DVD-A1 has the same link.

It is believed that this player will be m/c DVD-Audio and m/c SACD capable (as well as MP3 and HDCD) and will be able to pass the digital audio to the amp using this digital link allowing bass management, delay, tone and channel volume on all digital sources, including SACD and DVD-Audio.

Spikeyboy, THe new Denon AVC-A11SR supports these formats. You need a 5.1 analogue input array on the amp to connect to DVD-A or SACD player.

If budget is tighter the 11SR is a great amp. Check out the review in this months Home Cinema Choice.

I might have bought the new A1SE with DPLii etc but I couldnt wait and I couldnt really justify the extra £700 to £1000 for the new model.
