whats best cable for normal lcd tv

hi guys,

some of you may have read my nightmare thread regarding my exploits with a vga cable.

well ive had enough its all going back and i need some "proper advice" please.

basically i have a lcd tv, and my choices are,
scart, yellow/white/red, and s-video.

and i have the cable that came with the premium edition of the 360, and i must say the picture with that through yellow/red/white is poor to say the least.

with it connected with them using the scart adaptor, only a very slight improvement.

so guys whats the best way to go.

ive heard my choices are simple......

RGB Advanced Scart Cable
or
XBOX 360 S-VIDEO AV CABLE

so now my questions about the s-video one,
are, the s-video is the one i know nothing about, and ive seen them online but they confuse me slightly,

they also have the yellow/red/white connectors, but have the s-video connector as well.
so do you use the 3 connectors and the s-video??

so guys which one should i now buy, because iam going bloody crazy trying to sort thsi out.

thanks for any help.

edit
1 other question i have on a separate point,

given my connections,
isn't there a way to convert the component (red/blue/green/) into either scart or dvi-d (and get the hd signal at all)

probably not but worth a thought.

My mate has an RGB scart on hes CRT and the improvement is very noticable, I think RGB is a better signal than s-video so i'd say that, hope that helps.

find out if your scart is RGB. If it is use RGB SCART cable. If not you'll be better off with s-video.

Suprised you say it's better with the scart adaptor, because as far as i know it's still a composite signal.

just for the record: HDMI/DVI, VGA, COMPONENT, RGB SCART, S-VIDEO, SCART/COMPOSITE from best to worse.

aghhhhi think ive found out why iam getting no signal,

and that is because the dvi-d cant convert the vga signal,

anyway, i have another question, (sorry for this guys, just want to sort this out this weekend.)

cant i get a hdmi to dvi-d converter, or would that be same as the vga one, and unable to get signal.

ive seen the hdmi to dvi-d adaptors, and i was thinking of getting the xbox hdmi cable, and putting that in....would that work.

anyway any help now would do iam very close to past caring.

thanks again guys for any help.

so the s-video one, would i still connect the 3 coloured connectors and the s-video all at once..

heres the link to the cable iam thinking of getting if you say its about the best option left.

no, just connect the red/white leads which are audio left/right and the s-video lead. the yellow is the composite with gives an inferior picture.

Not how much better it will be, i'd assume only a small improvement.

So is your LCD scart not RGB?

"the ext 1socket has audio,CVBS/RGB, inputs and audio CVBS OUTPUTS"
(ext1 is the scart connector on the tv"

I have a similar question so thought that I might as well use this thread save opening a new one.

I have a 360 but at the moment only have an old CRT TV. As long as I get permission from the wife I will be getting a HD LCD TV in the next few weeks and would like to know the best way to connect my 360 to it. I already have the official VGA cable as I sometimes use the 360 on my pc monitor. I will hopefully be getting a Samsung or Sony TV so I should have all available connections.

Is it worth me buying a new cable or is the VGA one the best option to go for.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I personally use VGA on my Toshiba LCD.

See if you can check what your new tv accepts through it's VGA socket, if it does accept the screens native resolution (probably 1366 x 768 or 1920 x 1080) then deffo use VGA cable.

Using Component gives an arguably an equally good picture though, so assuming you have the premium xbox 360 it's just a personal preference between VGA and Component.

You can only get a 'progressive scan' image from HDMI/DVI, Component or VGA.

thanks guys, much appreciated,

i have actually bought a very good looking cable, that has multiple connections, including rgb scart, and s-video, so bets of all worlds, only cost £9 off ebay to.
