worthless..... i'll give you £1200 if you have one you want to sell ;)

I havent really seen bargains, from what I gather, no one really had stock following last years nonsense, so they dont panic to shift stock. Actually im quite surprised that there hasnt been more tag panic selling from members here.....

I'm not that surprised there hasn't been much panic selling for the following reasons

    1) The TAG equipment is fantastic
    2) No-one knows what IAG are going to do yet
    3) What else is there to change to without significant cost and negligible improvement in quality (Arcam and its software bugs, Rotel and unknown upgrade path, Krell/Bryston and their expense
    ?)

Having said that, an AV30 went for £820 on Ebay recently and there is currently a brand new, sealed AV32R+DAB, DVD32R+PSM and 100x5R on ebay at present for £4,600 - 2hrs to go!!

Excuse me lovegroova, with reference to the Arcam AV8, what software bugs would those be then?

well i look back at the panic selling those months ago..... the same reasons that you give for it not happening now were valid then....

I'd prefer the arcam anyhow, match my forthcoming dv27 :)

Sorry, I was referring to the general software problems experienced by many people with your equipment, especially DVD players. My apologies for being incorrect regarding the AV8.

This from the only review posted thus far for the AV8 on audioreview.com

"Arcam AV8 / P7 and DV27, since my last review things started to go wrong, the amp P7 started to buzz loudly in quiet parts of the film and the DVD player DV27 wouldnt respond and laser tracking, very noisey as it moved to next chapter, phoned Arcam, who said take it back to your dealer,i did, i took it all back and they replaced it all in 4 days. ARCAM FMJ AV8/P7 and DV27. Everything was fine for the first few days, then i noticed the DV27 sometimes CRASHED and wouldnt do anything, went back to manual which said turn OFF for 30 seconds,it worked okay, until i turned it off, the next day it just said ON ,on the display ,open didnt work nothing did,and this was one of the upgraded versions,i took it back 22nd Febuary 2003 to PETER TYSON, who will now replace it again, but here we go the FMJ DV27 as new name from APRIL 2003 FMJ DV27A, as you have guessed DVD-AUDIO. But cd display has changed, where it said cd and mp3 in the top left corner is now in the right top corner and clear as a bell, not like this one 2nd dvd player i have just took back, blurred. My first DV27 was as clear as a bell in the top left corner where it said CD and mp3 and was a clearer picture than the 2nd which I took back today,no shakey-ness or flickering"

Through the semi-literate ramblings you can see he had to have his P7 replaced and had to take 2 DVD players back.

I still stand by my comment that changing from an AV32R to an AV8 would still incur great expense for not a huge sound change/improvement.

    Thank you, apology accepted.

Since you mentioned DVD players I should also like to point out that we have not AFAIK had any serious SW problems on the second generation DVD players (i.e. Zoran Vaddis 5 based ones), though I would certainly acknowledge that the Vaddis 3 first generation players (especially the original DV88) involved a very steep learning curve. We are hardly alone there (every specialist DVD player manufacturer I know of has had similar problems) but of course that is no excuse.

And you are of course free to quote from individuals' reviews to make a point (though the AudioReview site can be a bit variable). However I just had a look and observed that there are also 8 reviews of the DV27 in its various guises on the site (it lists 9 but one is a duplicate) - all 5 out of 5 and no particular negative issues reported.

Shall we draw a line under this?

You can find unlucky customers of any company you choose, from Mercedes Benz to Rolex. General consensus is what's important and you hear little but praise for Arcam's excellent products.

I agree. Even though I'm a current TMA owner I have had several pieces of ARCAM and the old A+R Cambridge gear in the past.

I agree about audioreview. The reviewer I quoted gave 5 out of 5 despite his problems

And as for drawing a line, that is absolutely fine by me :smashin:

Although I'm a bit slow on this one, the bit about changing an AV32R (I assume DP as per the thread title) for an AV8 "would still incur great expense for not a huge sound change/improvement." I'd say the AV32R/DP coupled to a suitable amp (Bryston 6BSST or TMA 250x3R) is actually better than the AV8/P7 combo but then you would expect it to be considering the price difference.

John is a decent bloke and Arcam a decent company but we also have had several DV88's/DV88+ and at present a broken DV89 (won't play/freezes and spits out disks that are still rotating!) but I expect it to be sorted out promptly, product reliablity is no better or worse than the likes of SONY/DENON etc. but the Company is better to deal with in my experience.
