I have been looking round at the prices on the net for a DVD player and one firm offers one with VCR Mode which allows for copying DVDs to VHS as you would get a worse picture of tape is there any other posible reason for this function?

Sounds like the DVD player's just removing Macrovision from the video signals???

Other possible uses - some RPTV owners claim to be able to see a drop in quality in Macrovision-using DVD discs???

A more legit reason would be it's handy for people who have no scarts or video RCA sockets on their ancient TVs...

DVD > VCR > TV via RF...

Its handy for those of us waiting for the release of the extended version of the Two Towers. Tape the rental 2 disc version to watch while waiting for the collectors boxset to be released.

That’s one idea but at present you can get LOTR for £8 (yes I know not 2 Towers) be time you have hired it out and the price of a tape of lower quality you might as well buy the disc then flog it when the collectors box set comes out.
I too have not bought LOTR as I’m also waiting for the collected edition of the series. If I want to watch the DVD’s before then I have a mate that will lend me his copy.

Some older CRT projectors had problems with macrovision.
