What would happen if I pushed a HD signal into a Denon 1906

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what would happen if I pushed a HD signal from my DVI port on my laptop into the component input of my Denon 1906 then from my 1906 via Component in to my standard-def TV.

Would I get no signal, or would the Denon convert it to SD.

This seems like an incredibly stupid question, but, I can't put my finger on why.

Thanks

Andrew

PS I've had a long day

It would blow up like a bomb.

Only kidding. Nothing would happen because component is an analogue signal and dvi is digital so you'd simply get nowt.

Don't think so, Digital video interface innit?

I may be talking out of my bumhole but I'm sure someone much cleverer than me will put me right if i am.:smashin:

Component can carry HD signals it just cannot work with HDCP protocols. So if you were sending an non HDCP signal the AMP will simply pass it through to your display.

It is a common thought that HDMI is the only way to transmit HD signals. Mainly because that is what the big studio bosses want us to think! :)

Why not just try it!

Isn't DVI-I Analogue as well as digital?

Andrew

Yup your correct. It can carry both signals. Digital and Analogue.

You could run a DVI-I to omponent lead but the res would need to be set to 480. the 1906 can pass hi-def via component hasn't got the bandwidth.
