What would be a noticeable upgrade from a Yamaha RX-V2500?

As per title really. I'd like to upgrade to an amp with HDMI and the newer sound formats. I would be buying second hand to save some money. I'm not interested in 3D.

My speakers are KEF T205. I like Yamaha's DSP effects especially 7ch Stereo. Any amps that can do that or similar would be cool.

Budget of about £500.

What do you think?

Rather than buy secondhand, with all of the potential issues around relaibility and warranty, why not buy the best new £500 AV receiver in the Onkyo TXNR609 ? It has so many features and is such a great performer, you would regret considering this model.
