    Hello all

Possibly one of the biggest deciding factors over the past twelve months when it comes down to final choice of Plasma Display to stick in your Lounge, TV Room, Home Cinema (whatever you like to call it) has been the choice between a Silver or a Dark bezel.

Pretty much every time this issues has been raised its usually accompanied by the line - 'the wife says I must get Silver'!

So what now that Pioneer have gone for the all black glass edge look on the new HDE - will 'the look' win over the design conscious ladies or will lots of potential Pioneer 434HDE owners have to go for something else instead?

I guess Pioneer must have a big add campaign in the wings with lots of 'in room' shots to show how this 'new look' is going to work - and maybe as a back up we should introduce a range of snap on silver trims for the new HDE?

    Best regards

    Joe

    Hi Joe,

Wife gets no say in the matter. It's black, get over it (then run for cover). Actually black would be my choice as it matches front and center speakers and the 6 foot Marine fish tank cabinet and hood. All I've got to do now is change the Beech computer workstation and AV Rack for Black Ash.

    Cheers

Interestingly, I've got a black and a silver panny and the wife prefers the black one.

    Regards,
    Neil.

personaly i would find someone else to blow my trumpet but i think the new pioneers are the best lookin plasmas out there.
these silver ones look cheap and tacky, piano black looks classy
    but me amp is silver,
nothing matches if u buy the best quality over brand loyalty

So are we saying that 1 to 1 pixel mapping is not possible on the pioneers if it scales everything including the HDMI/DVI/digital signal.
Can you specify the native rez of the 503 through the DVI out of a HTPC with powerstrip.
Are the non square pixels an issue as i'm looking at this new 504 panel as it does look stunning in the piano gloss frame.

Well, my wife didn't like the black Pio so it wa a silver MXE for me (thanks Joe) even though it dosn't match my equip rack, my amps, my DVD player or my speakers !

How right this is. I've got a mish mash of wood, olive green, gold and silver. Not very high in the WAF stakes.

no i guess u can bypass the scaler like turning off pixel plus, but will have to wait for full speck to be sure.
the pioneer 504 wont have a dvi output but hdmi only. hdmi is a competing standard and is off better quality than dvi. it also can carry multi channel sound on the same cable.
the pixels wont be an issue. alot off companys use pioneers for there presentation as the quality is so high.

Pixel plus will have nothing to do with the scaling of the display whether its on or off, as has been discussed in other threads all plasma's have scalers so that any input you give it whether it be a 480i/p 525i/p will fill the pixels available so with a 1024x768 the 480 is scaled up to 768 etc...

I'm not as bothered by the pixels/scaling, but the black border sure does bother my wife.
It may ensure I don't even consider Pioneer, even if it has good scaling.
    A digital-TV tuner would'nt go amiss in the 21st Century !

Joe, How large would the snap on surround have to be for the new pioneer !?

    Steve.

My TV is silver. My DVD player is champagne. My VCR is silver. My Laserdisc, Amp and Cassette deck are all black. They are all adjacent to one another in a black unit. And I have a beige and silver projector screwed to the ceiling.

My wife hasn't complained (well, there was, once, a rather passive 'pity they aren't all the same' comment). I suspect she knows it would be pointless.

My domain is the lounge. My wife's is the kitchen. She doesn't tell me which colour plasma to buy. I don't tell her which washing machine. :rotfl:

I'm glad the new Pioneer has the Black gloss bezel. Infact these trends come and go...and so black will come back...i've never been a fan of the silver finish....although i have liked the color/finish on the Arcam Av eqiupment.... my ideal equipment would be black metal with a dark red LCD display..unfortunatly i can't afford any Mark Levinson stuff so that is out of the question!

The missus has some say but the downstairs is getting redecorated and i have done mostly what i wanted:rolleyes: seriously i love doing the dishes....for the next 10 yrs!:suicide:

We're the other way round in our house, wife buys the toys, not interested in dishwashers. As she works 14 hrs a day to keep toys in plentiful supply, if I don't want to wash the dishes, I'd better buy a dishwasher, and she'll say 'that's nice'! Show her a black surround plasma and she'll say, 'what's the resolution? Contrast? has it got a digital tuner? and sensible questions like that. She'd redecorate if the plasma of her choice didn't fit in, and as the rest of the gear is completely hidden, matching is irrelevant. It only has to match an IR eye.

No, not a bloke, checked last night.:D The 'good news' 1st, she's of catholic parents.... The bad news, other people have discovered the family secret, and married them. Don't worry, you'd like them. One has a plasma, one is contemplating it. wht colour is the surround, I hear you ask? Grey, it's a MXE
