Apart from bigger HDD's, HDMI. What can we expect?
Freeview tuners with full EPG support and maybe several 'Home Networking' products building on where the E500 has started. We'll have a better idea following CES.
I'm still waiting for the day when I can have a twin freeview tuner, HDD, DVD recorder box in one.
We've seen twin tuner HDD boxes, single tuner DVD recorders, HDD DVD recorders, but no twin tuner, HDD DVD recorder!!
Think of all the space you'd save.
Oh, and I'd like it to play Divx, mp3, jpeg, vcd etc and be prog scan and be around £200 please.
Think of the hassle there is if the thing ever broke down and you had to send it away for repair!
Whoops sorry, gotta stop being so cynical/pessimistic
Please tell me the benefit of freeview digital tuners. And what is EPG
You get 20 odd channels as opposed to 5.
Electronic Programme Guide - a free onscreen TV guide. You will be able to highlight a programme and set a timer recording.
But what does that mean in terms of a RDVD. Are you saying that currently you can't record freeview channels?
Well yes of course you can, but, at the moment if you wanted to schedule a timer event you have to set them separately on the DVDR and the Freeview box.
As JayCee says you currently can use a digibox - when freeview tuners are incorporated you will have all digital recorder (better quality) plus 'one click' timer recording. It will just make things abit slicker than they are now.
very slowly getting there
Not so much the extra channels as most of it's garbage and you'll still find yourself watching the 'main terrestrial' channels.
Real benefits are....
Better picture quality (depending on your location and how good/bad your analogue signal is).
True 16:9 anamorphic widescreen broadcasts as seen on most DVD films.
Prog information and 7 day epg (if available)
Separate names with a comma.
