As the title really, which was the last 43" Sony TV made with a VA panel?
Thanks!
That’s ace, awesome deal aswell! It was refurbished I presume. Still great though. I love my full HD Sony W755, and been trying to find a 4K replacement. Like you, the 4K version with a VA panel would be perfect. As it stands I’m tempted to take a punt on the 43XF8096. Had IPS before with Panasonic and it wasn’t too bad. They had one listed on eBay for £498, I messaged them and offered £430 and they accepted. Their warehouse is only 15 minutes from me so I went and collected it.
Great find, chuffed for you. I’m hoping I get some luck with similar! I’ve had many brands over the years, but always preferred my Sony’s. The motion, colour pallete etc all better than the others. It’s why I’m even considering going for a new Sony IPS over cheaper VA brands! I hear so many horror stories about Hisense and Philips build quality or software issues.Yeah it was refurbed.
But looked mint, and no backlight issues, no dse, and still had all the clear tape round the screen and stand etc.
After living with the 43XD80 for a few days I would definitely avoid the IPS panels.
I was having a bit of a grumble to a mate last night that on mixed scenes where there is bright and dark that the dark looks washed out, he however has the XE85, and said it looked far better than his. So I guess it depends what your baseline is?
Hmmm?
The Philips 6703 had deeper blacks, not by much but definitely deeper. But motion issues made it unusable with Sky.
The only LCD TVs I have owned before are the HX923, back lit local dimming and the W905, edge lit but very good local dimming.
The problem is the rest of the image is just sublime.
Problem with new TVs is it takes you a while to stop thinking about things you notice simply because it is new, so the question I have to ask myself is "Do I keep it and probably end up loving it, with the risk I don't and then miss my 7 day return period? Or, do I send it back and buy something like the XF9005, which is twice what I want to spend and much bigger than I want in that room?"
Also, the TV speakers are really good, no bass at all, but I plugged in my old Rel sub and set the audio out to Subwoofer and I could easily live with that, nearly as good as my Yamaha YSP600 soundbar which has seen away many of the newer models over the last few years.
So maybe a 49" with no soundbar might be good aesthetically, certainly not sit any higher than the 43" on top of it currently.
The XE didn't come in a 43" so first thought would have been a VA panel for the XE model. It is a 43" same as this.
XF85 not XE, not sure if that makes much difference?

Sony do a 50WE663 which is HD and a VA panel. After living with the 43XD80 for a few days I would definitely avoid the IPS panels.

Yep, it does, in 2017 Sony used VA on XE85 models while in 2018 XF85 are IPS, only XF49 and XF85 are VA panels and XF85 does not exist in 43", 49" is the smallest so your friend has somethng else, maybe a XF75?
