I was just thinking back to when my DVD collection was so small it could be held in one hand - what a horrible thought! :( :D

The first DVD I ever bought was A Clockwork Orange (R1). I remember being really chuffed with it because it was still outlawed in this country then!

The next one I bought was the Alien Box Set. It just seemed so incredible to have all four films plus all those extras in one little box! :D

Region One DVDs seemed really special back then as there was literally nothing available on Region 2. All my friends were well jealous! :D

I bought a 1st gen 110V R1 player (early adopter!) think Total Recall, Long Kissgoodnight and Mars Attacks.

Only 50 R1 DVD's were out at the time. Probably around 1997.

Terribly predictable but it was The Matrix in 1999 to play on my shiny new Pioneer 717 :). Since then, I sold that disc and bought the R1 Matrix/Matrix Revisted Box which I then sold for the standalone Matix R4 because I wanted an uncut version in an Amaray case instead of a snapper  :D.

Con Air's a great movie. What's wrong with you dude? :D

First DVD I bought was "Love Sucks!" R2 for a fiver from Play, around March/April last year. Couldn't believe DVDs had gotten so cheap so bought one to try out on my DVD-ROM but ended up ordering a widescreen TV and DVD player before it had even arrived :D

As a long-time Phillip K Dick fan, with a shelf of novels, it had to be Blade Runner.

The first movies that I bought on DVD were Out of Sight, and Contact, both viewed on a good old Samsung 709.

The first DVD that I had to have was The Matrix, which I hot-footed it into town to buy on the morning of release and paid over the odds for from my local video shop, before I had even heard of esoteric places like FutureEnt or Play.com.

I had one of those rare early 709's which didn't freak out over the 'White Rabbit' and allowed me to enjoy one of the first 'must-have' DVD movies in my home, whenever I wanted to watch it (Home cinema addiction was but a whisper away).

I ordered about 12 discs when I ordered my player back in October 1997. But the disc I most wanted of these 12 and the one which made me buy a player was the first Austin Powers film.

The catalogue was pretty restrictive in those days, I remember marvelling at the first RSDL disc that I saw - the original release of T2.

Those were the days of frantically watching the image web site for release dates - eg the heady days of May 98 when on the same day we had Starship Troopers, Tomorrow Never Dies and Pulp Fiction!

No Paramount or Fox titles of course - remember DiVX!!

Tomorrow Never Dies R2 back in October of 1998 as I had just got a brand new 400MHz PC with DVD-ROM drive. I remember when it arrived and being blown away by the picture quality on my monitor and because of this I have now spent god knows how much money on HC equipment and DVD's but what a great hobby it is :D

    The Thing (R2)

May not be anamorphic - but a pretty decent transfer all the same.

Still one of the best ever Sci Fi films IMHO - Carpenter's Magnum Opus (and I include Halloween in that assessment).
