    They love it:

    Ease of Use: 4/5
    Picture: 5/5
    Sound: 3/5
    Value: 5/5

    Overall Verdict: 5/5

"An absolute must-buy for XBox 360 owners; another great reason to get an Xbox 360 if you haven't already, and an almighty two-fingered salute from Microsoft to Blue Ray."

"....Pretty much the only word we can use here is 'unbelievable'. ....playing just £130 for [this drive] has got to be one of the deals of the decade."

    God I want one, LOL!

That's quite amazing, who'd have thought a games console would ever recieve scores like that.

Have they reviewed the PS3's BR playback yet?

    Here's more:

"...[even after buying the HD-Drive and XBox 360] the price is under half the current price of a [Toshiba HD-DVD] player. And let's not forget that the Tosh or Blue-Ray players will let you play the 100's of cracking games that the Xbox 360 will.....you will struggle to find a better way of watching HD DVD on your TV."

"[We were expecting all kinds of picture issues due to the video data being pushed from the drive to the 360 via Component]. Amazingly through, problems like these are quite brilliantly contained ...picture quality from the King Kong disc is frequently stunning. Colours look considerably more dynamic and rich than the standard DVD of the same movie."

"....MPEG noise is practically non-existent :)eek:), motion looks smooth and clean, picture looks breathtaking sharp.....every last frame of the film looks wonderfully textured, strikingly 3-D and plain film-like."

"....[Upscaling via VGA isn't outstanding but] far superior than we could have expected for a mere £130."

"[Panny Blu-Ray player may have digital output via HDMI but its not worth the extra £1000 when compared to this]".

Agree about the sound mark they have given! But hopefully Microsoft can easily fix it with a update!

No - but HCC has (which also have the 360 drive high marks) - they only awarded the PS3 4/5.

Certainly not a bargain for me, the noise the 360 makes completely ruins films, hence why I will be selling it soon and getting a proper one :thumbsdow

It's great to have expert reviews. Do they know KK is a VC1 encode and not Mpeg ? :D

Any particular reason why it scored less than the 360 cos the PS3 will probably be my first BR player?

no idea personally. I'm very happy with mine. Its certainly a lot quieter than my 360, and I have no issue with using the basic controller instead of a remote

I think due to the quality of the software rather than the player...also they had trouble getting a few international discs to run and they weren't too impressed with the joypad as a remote (and no infra red reader for universal remote controls).

I don't think you'll go seriously wrong with it as a player though...
