What video formats does the PS3 play?

I've been looking into building an HTPC, as I can't for the life of me get my 360 to talk to my Vista Business PC for streaming videos/MP3's, etc, so thought the HTPC route might be best.

If, however, a PS3 will play all the file types I want, ie Divx, HD Divx, H264, HD WMV, .TS files, etc, it could well be a viable alternative, but unfortunately I haven't got a clue where to start with one, been out of the loop since PS1! :rolleyes:

The following types of files can be played under (Video).

* Memory Stick Video Format
* - MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
* - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile (AAC LC)
* MP4 file format
* - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC High Profile (AAC LC)
* MPEG-1 (MPEG Audio Layer 2)
* MPEG-2 PS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AAC LC, AC3(Dolby Digital), LPCM)
* MPEG-2 TS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2)
* - Motion JPEG (Linear PCM)
* - Motion JPEG (μ-Law)
* AVCHD (.m2ts / .mts)
* DivX
* - VC-1(WMA Standard V2)
AVI only works if it includes mp2, mp3, or mp4 codecs... or something like that.
